This rescued romanesco's iconic kaleidoscope swirls are cream-colored rather than their usual vibrant green, most likely due to shorter days and colder temps. Though the change in color has no affect on its signature fractal shape, crunchy texture, or deliciously nutty flavor.

The Gold Nugget mandarin is aptly named for its lumpy, bumpy appearance and vibrant hue that resembles a lump of gold. While this mandarin might look a bit rough around the edges, its rind is relatively easy to peel and it gets bonus points for being totally seedless.

Think of fuyu and hachiya persimmons as fraternal twins—they might have a ton in common, but their differences define them. Hachiyas are best snacked on whole when they’re super soft, while fuyus can be eaten when firm (making them contenders for salads, toast, and cheeseboards).

One way to eliminate more food waste at home is to keep certain foods apart from one another, like apples and oranges. Apples produce an ethylene gas that can cause other fresh produce, like citrus fruits, to ripen—AKA spoil—faster. An easy fix is to simply keep them apart.

No movie magic here, these butternut squash and russet potato misfits are just a little stunted due to atypical weather conditions in their regions. Look for them in our storefront this week!

We recently paid a visit to one of our farm partners, Beacon Village Farm in North Carolina, and, surprising no one, this peculiar pepper immediately caught our attention! (And stole our heart, naturally.) #MisfitsMarket

Typically bright green, this week's Romanesco may have a slight purple tinge due to colder temperatures in California where they're grown. Despite its multi-colored appearance, it's 100% edible and just as delicious as the green variety you're used to. #MisfitsMarket

Happy September! While we'll continue to rescue delicious summery produce like stone fruit, corn, and tomatoes, you'll start to see early fall fruits and veggies slide into your boxes, too. Think: hardy leafy greens, numerous apple varieties, and lots of root vegetables.
