It's been disappointing to read several ex-players criticising Parkinson. He got the call mid-match, having done no red-ball prep in 3 weeks, yet took 1-47 off 15.3 on a seaming pitch. For comparison, look at how the opposition spinner went - & he's got a 10fer in test cricket!
If clubs don’t want to play these games, then don’t play in the competition. Don’t ruin it for those lower down by changing the rules because your 50+ player squad can’t handle an extra fixture
Tranmere being denied the opportunity to fight for their own fate by others waving a card of self interest is galling. Teams in another division having the chance to replace them by playing further games shows a disgusting disregard for integrity that is apparently so important
Ishmael Miller has personally requested that Tranmere stop his wages until he is fit again. Had a hamstring operation yesterday. Micky Mellon says it’s “a fantastic gesture”
#TRFC
Sunday will be Micky Mellon's 189th game in charge of Tranmere. In that time he has delivered:
3⃣ Wembley appearances
2⃣ Promotions
3⃣ FA Cup ties against Premier League opposition
8⃣4⃣ Wins
But most importantly, he has restored the Wirral's pride in their football club

Another golden quote from
@liam_ridehalgh
yesterday: "I remember looking up at the clock and a minute and 28 seconds had gone. I thought ‘not bad!’"
#TRFC
Mellon: "It was a measure of Pochettino with the team he named. He's a real quality guy. I just had 15 mins with him and we spoke about football. You can tell why he's one of the best managers in the world."
#TRFC
The number of clean sheets Tranmere are keeping is just insane. They’ve conceded one goal in their last 13 hours 4 mins of league football - and did it today with a midfielder playing at centre-half. 15 clean sheets in 26 league games. Incredible
#TRFC
Had the pleasure of a look around Everton’s new stadium today. The sloping stand, which will be the home end, is already impressive. Also noticeable just how close to the pitch the seats are. Should lead to a magnificent atmosphere
#EFC
.
More from Mark Palios: "I've had the figures in this afternoon. If we had to go to Christmas without a game being played, we could manage, and beyond that probably as well. That's a function of all the work we've been doing for four or five years"
#TRFC
Scott Davies: “Steve McNulty’s one of my best friends in football, he came to me and said ‘let’s lift the trophy together’. To have that moment with him was special. Whatever happens in the future, to have that moment with him, it makes me emotional now thinking about it”
#TRFC
Tranmere have basically been relegated here because 18 clubs in League One decided they couldn’t, or didn’t want to, carry out their primary function of playing football matches
#TRFC
🤨
This is also a huge slap in the face to Mark and Nicola Palios, who have worked tirelessly to return Tranmere to League One. They achieve that ambition, only to be told that the final 20% of the season is irrelevant. Form? January signings? The fixture list? Meaningless
#TRFC
Liam Ridehalgh: “I’m proud to stay with the club and get them back to where they belong. I’m out of contract. I hope to stay. I wouldn’t like to leave. It wouldn’t be right for me to leave”
#trfc
Make no mistake, this a huge injustice. Tranmere deserved to go down in 2014 & 2015. But this time they were fighting and they were in the mix. They even had a game in hand. Yet they have been sacrificed by their peers because it was the easiest, not right, thing to do
#TRFC
Manny Monthe signs new two year contract with Tranmere. Turned down offers elsewhere to remain at Prenton Park - there was plenty of interest. Huge bit of business to keep him
#TRFC
That was an absolute masterclass in game management from Tranmere. Every single player was at the top of their game. Micky Mellon’s journey continues
#TRFC
Including play-off matches, that was Micky Mellon's 100th league game in charge of
@TranmereRovers
today - he's won 58 of them. Staggering numbers, and they are only getting better and better.

Coming soon: The inside & often untold story of Tranmere’s fall & rise between 2009 & 2019. I’ve exclusively and extensively interviewed some of the key figures who saw it all unfold. How & why did it happen? What has led to the rebirth? Questions that now have answers

Tranmere win four games out of four over the Christmas period* for the first time in their history

*Using final weekend before Christmas up to the first weekend of the New Year as the Christmas period
This lazy accusation is thrown at Tranmere by ill informed people far too often when it couldn’t be further from the truth.
#TRFC
and the local community go hand in hand and have done for years
Jay Harris: "
@connorjennings1
has been an unsung hero. He and
@jnorwood_10
compliment each other, when Nors doesn't tell him to F off. But at the minute the Lord can do whatever he wants!"

MIcky Mellon becomes only the second manager, after the great Johnny King, to take Tranmere to Wembley more than once.
Kingy also lost his first play-off final with
#TRFC
, before returning twelve months later and gaining redemption. Omen?
I must say, a masterclass in how to play as a lone centre forward from Morgan Ferrier today. Held the ball up brilliantly, occupied the centre backs for the entirety of the match and took his goal superbly. Well played 👏
#TRFC
Since Johnny King, no manager has left Tranmere in a better position than when he took charge. That's one of, if not the biggest testament you can pay to Mellon. Highest win percentage for any
#TRFC
boss who led in the team in over 100 games
Arguably Tranmere’s most impressive win of the season. There was a lot of pressure riding on that and they’ve delivered another three points and another clean sheet. I’d be stunned if they’re not in the automatic promotion spots after 46 games
#TRFC
A club record equaling day for
@TranmereRovers
and
@scottydav1
- twelve clean sheets in league games at Prenton Park this season. On a par with 1952/53 and 1970/71 campaigns
#TRFC
Steve McNulty was just what Tranmere needed when he joined. A leader and winner who fought for every point. He's done a lot in 3 & a half years, more than some have achieved in significantly longer spells. Has earned his place in
#TRFC
history & leaves a hole in the dressing room
A brave call from Mark Palios to sack Hill. People from outside the Tranmere bubble will make aspersions because
#TRFC
are in the play-offs, so he may well take flack for this. But form and performances had fallen off a cliff and crowd opinion had swung dramatically.
Personally I’m gutted to see Harris leave in particular. A real cult hero at Prenton Park. Put in 100% every minute and weighed in with some true moments of quality. Improved significantly and adapted to life in League Two. Has his place in Tranmere history
#TRFC
Hands down, that's one of the most emotionally draining but absorbing and exciting football matches I've ever seen. Incredible advert for the game and the club. Bring on Wembley
#TRFC
A real shame to see Micky’s reign at Tranmere end this way. He remains a Rovers legend, their second most successful boss ever in terms of promotions. Despite how this season has panned out, can and should never forget the memories of those two magnificent days at Wembkey
#TRFC
Love this from
@connorjennings1
ahead of taking on his brother James this weekend: "There's no half and half scarves in our family. They'll probably support Tranmere...because I'm the favourite"
#TRFC
20-years should today, the Wirral emptied as nearly 30,000
@tranmererovers
fans made their way to Wembley to watch

in their first and to date only major cup final. That roar when David Kelly scored 💙 can’t believe it’s been two decades
James Vaughan reaches 20 league goals for
@TranmereRovers
in just 33 appearances. Nobody has reached that mark in fewer games since John Clayton in the 1984/85 season
#TRFC
3 wins in a row mean Tranmere are just 3 points from safety with a game in hand on Wimbledon, who they play later this month. Mellon has masterminded a return from the brink with January arrivals & a team selection tonight that few would have predicted but pays off big time
#TRFC
Mark Palios: “We met up over the weekend to discuss matters and both felt it was a great fit for him to return, so we have moved swiftly to ensure that there is plenty of time to build a squad for the new season.”

Excited to reveal I’m writing a book on
@TranmereRovers
’ 3 years in the National League, culminating in that special day at Wembley. It will include fascinating and in-depth interviews with:
Micky Mellon

Gary Brabin
Ben Harrison from

Happy anniversary to Micky Mellon, who was appointed as
@TranmereRovers
boss two years ago today. To celebrate, I have two copies of Back Where We Belong, signed by the manager, to give away. Retweet, like & follow by 9am tomorrow & I will pick a couple of winners at random
#TRFC
James Norwood: “We needed it last year, for the club’s sake. We had to sort of keep the club going last year & promotion helped with that. This was more about our pride & what we wanted to achieve. This was about how good we are as players. We’ve answered some questions”
#TRFC
Huge congrats to
@Tranmere_Trust
for reaching their target. A splendid effort, especially given current climate
Special mention to Ben Harrison, a pillar of the community who’s had an incredibly tough year but constantly works harder than anybody I know for the benefit of others
David Perkins: "We're thinking about automatic promotion, make no bones about that. The manager's thinking about it, all the players are. We'll just keep ticking all the game off. We're looking up, not down"
#TRFC
Steve McNulty departs Tranmere. Over 150 appearances made. Two trophies lifted. Two promotions. Captain, leader and legend. Good luck for the future
#TRFC
In my opinion, getting Nelson to stay after his loan deal is the signing of the summer. Bags of experience already, but also a huge amount of potential. Rock solid at the back towards the end of the season. Very, very exciting
#TRFC
Mark Palios: “4 years ago, I said ‘it’s devastating today but not disastrous tomorrow’. Last year I said ‘we celebrate today, but we concentrate tomorrow to get out of this league’. Today’s the same. We celebrate today, but concentrate to make sure we compete in League One”
#TRFC
Joe Murphy yesterday became only the second goalkeeper to keep a Football League clean sheet in three different decades (90s, 2000s, 2020s) for Tranmere. The other was George Payne, who joined
#TRFC
after the Second World War, making 439 appearances between 1946 and 1969
Best thing about these new contracts is they are two year deals. Tranmere have a squad again. Gone are the days of a conveyor belt of players leaving after short stays. Now, they are spending a significant period of their careers with the
#TRFC
& staying because they want to
Full-time: Tranmere 1-0 Lincoln. Tactical masterstroke from Micky Mellon at half time wins

the three points. Bringing Gilmour on changed the game. Brave substitution paid off. He brought energy and drive to the midfield and created the space for chances to be made. Superb.
Mark Palios: "I have to do what I think gives us the best chance of achieving promotion in those games and I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that means making the change before the semi-finals begin."
#TRFC
There was a league game in the 2013/14 campaign when fewer than 4,000 fans turned up. Tranmere are now back in the same division and have already shifted more season tickets than that. Phenomenal return and shows how much the tide has turned for football fans on the Wirral
#TRFC
Delighted that we have sold over 4,000 season tickets for our first season back in League 1. Thanks to everyone who has bought one, and hear’s to another great season!
#TRFC
Norwood cites wanting to be closer to home as a reason for leaving, but adds: “I phoned the Chairman & told him everything & I said I would like to come back in some capacity one day, whether it is a player, coach or fan. This is a place that will always hold a place in my heart”
Mellon: "I hope we can stand here and have many of these nights and fill this stadium more. That's what it was all about when I first came back here; trying to bring nights like this back again. We dreamed of it. We got one tonight"
#TRFC
Back Where We Belong. The story of Tranmere's journey back to the Football League, as told by Micky Mellon, James Norwood, Mark Palios, Gary Brabin and Ben Harrison.
Out on August 11th.
#TRFC
Amazing how the Sheffield Wednesday decision can’t be made yet, but it took seconds to Chuck Wigan under the bus & now this for Macclesfield. Stevenage reprieved. The point deductions and sanctions clubs are suffering, factoring in Bolton & Bury too, has no consistency whatsoever
Micky Mellon is now one game away from becoming the first Tranmere manager to guide
#TRFC
to back to back appearances in the FA Cup third round since John Aldridge...when Rovers entered the competition at the third round stage 👀
After their 0-0 draw at Stevenage on January 16th, Tranmere were 15th in L2, 7 points off the play-offs and with a goal difference of -2. Five games and five wins later, they've soared up to third with a GD of +6. Still unbeaten in the league in 2021 and 4 points off top
#TRFC
Big statement signing from Tranmere as James Vaughan returns to Prenton Park after terminating his contract with Bradford. Made it no secret that he fancied coming back following loan spell and now joins permanently
#TRFC
#SWA
It’s a real shame to see Liam leave the club. A warrior & fighter who gave everything for Tranmere. 8 years of service & he saw off so many left backs brought in to replace him during that time. A character around the place and a double promotion winner. Good luck for the future
Ainsworth is doing a terrific job, but does not sit well that Wycombe voted to end the season, said play-offs would be financially damaging & advised furloughed staff to look for other jobs yet get this moment of celebration - those who wanted to continue got no chance to fight
There's some very ambitious squad building going on at Tranmere. It's been a long time since they were signing multiple players on contracts extending beyond 24 months. Clearly a focus on not just the end of this season, but well beyond, which has not always been the case
#TRFC
Mike Jackson has issued a statement via the LMA after leaving Tranmere. He says: "From the start of our journey in the National League, I have enjoyed four memorable years at the club including three special days at Wembley and back to back promotions."
