Today is my Down Syndrome son’s 16th birthday, and I am ever more aware that there is no gift I can give him that is greater than the gift he is to me. Allow your child to bring out the best in you, especially when you face challenges, it is their special talent.

Happy Birthday Rome! After 2773 years, with plagues & invasions, tragic declines & glorious rebirths, leading the world with wise choices and shocking it with bad ones, this virus is certainly not the end- cum sapientia, audacia fortunaque - the Eternal City will rise again!

Walking through Rome at dusk on Jan 1, I passed St Maria in Campitelli, where this Baroque altarpiece was shining so brightly people stopped in their tracks at the open door. The tiny icon saved Rome from the plague in the 6th C. Can't think of a more hopeful sign for 2022!

I think Catholics would be less worried if the catholic priest could at least remember that June, in the Church, is the month of the sacred heart of Jesus

Catholics need not be wary of June's #PrideMonth It’s a way for LGBT people to be proud that they are beloved children of God, they have families who love them as they are, and they have a right to be treated with "respect, compassion and sensitivity" after years of persecution.

The Last Supper is in Milan and is an Italian work, I don’t understand why the French took aim at this painting. The only thing Leonardo ever did in France is die. Is this all France has to offer? A perverse parody of someone else’s genius? Did Dan Brown come up with this?

This is a parody of Michelangelo's Pieta, and does not do justice to today's feast. Great art doesn't need costume changes to be relevant. The Pietà speaks to every person who has ever suffered, regardless of color, race or creed, and hijacking it for a single issue cheapens it.

Happy Feast of the Lateran, the first legally-built Christian church in the world, and symbol of our precious right to proclaim our faith in the public square. Next year will be its 1700th birthday, time to remember how hard-won religious freedom is!

Today was magical as I got to talk about the Pietà from behind the glass. Gazing up at Mary was so moving, I almost couldn’t speak. #ilovemyjob thank you @RealRomaDowney for making this happen!

Lovely surprise on Laetare Sunday at Santo Spirito. Our beloved Fr Chris Mahar was joined by Cardinal Pell to celebrate the 6th anniversary of the passing of ⁦⁦⁦⁦⁦ @EWTN ⁩ Mother Angelica! Wonderful Mass, amazing music!

Gotta love Italy. Sign reads "little boys are male - little girls are female" plus a choice Orwell quote #backtobasics

This little trooper got off a plane, whisked to four churches, three cafes, a major museum and an opera in 48 hours, and then back to another museum once he landed in Rome! I am grateful he stills smiles w/mom ( or maybe it's the schnitzel!)

I am often quite tiresome about modern St Joseph statues, but on this, his feast day, let’s take advantage of his ubiquitous presence in our churches to thank him for watching over us. Oh and enjoy some zeppole in his honor! Happy #StJosephsDay from Puglia!

I love this work by Janet McKenzie of St Josephine Bakhita whose feast day is today. Enslaved, tortured and finally freed in Italy, she is an example of hopeful perseverance in terrible circumstances.

Rome’s “Trionfale” food market the morning of Christmas Eve. One of my favorite places to be. It is a magical wonderland of food, excitement and abundance!
