This is the play that every kid aspiring to be an athlete should watch.
No one in any sport works harder than this guy. No one in any sport grinds harder. Crosby's determination, work ethic, commitment, and will to win are what separates him from the greatest of the greats.
Sidney Crosby had a goal, 2 assists, and kept the Penguins afloat…again, but this was probably his most important play.
End of the game, end of his shift, and he hustles to wave off the icing effectively bleeding 20 of the final 30 seconds.

Again, there isn't a Pittsburgh athlete who's gotten reception like this since Crosby. And they're the only two in my lifetime.
Even Roethlisberger's reception was centralized in PGH. Skenes, like Crosby, has the entire league mesmerized and paying to see him.

I don't know how many times it bears repeating that the Pens traded all their bad guys for SJ's best player and got $3 million in extra cap space because of it.
Hasn't worked out perfectly yet, but it was still a phenomenal trade.

This is a very important distinction in the rule book that I think a lot of people tend to forget about.
Per NHL rules: 'A match penalty shall be imposed on any player who deliberately attempts to injure or who deliberately injures an opponent in any manner.'

Rickard Rakell is one of those rare examples of a player whose metrics don't match the eye test... but in a good way.
He looks a lot better than his metrics suggest. I think he just does a lot of little things (like create space and anticipate) that don't show up in data.

Also, the guy hasn't played in ages. It may take more than a couple of games to get him adjusted. And I think he's largely looked fine. Passes the eye test better than those other two.
Mike Sullivan suggested Jesse Puljujarvi is potentially coming out of the lineup for performance reasons, not managing his workload.

I think there's one reality that Pens fans haven't quite come to terms with:
Pittsburgh is no longer a bona fide destination for free agents. Free agents are generally willing to take less money to play for a contender.
That's why we're not seeing favorable targets sign here.

He played literally almost the entire season with a shoulder injury. Which more than likely affected his ability to shoot the puck.
He's bouncing back next season, folks. Book it.
Per Swedish outlet Expressen, Rickard Rakell declined an invitation to join Sweden for the IIHF World Championship due to a shoulder injury.
(He donned a brace on his right shoulder for much of the season after missing 12 games in November and December.)

He's been impressive, and the second line has looked better with him on it. And it's a perfect way to get Rakell going, too.
