It's finally here
Megaforce: The End of the Power Rangers
Join me on the 30th Anniversary of the franchise, as we take a trip back to its 20th Anniversary, and see if it's really that bad, now 10 years later.
"The Nerd" is a title James Rolfe can take off and leave at any point. Nostalgia Critic is the living tomb in which Doug Walker's remaining existence is trapped in.
The Internet Archive has been my go-to place for obscure or hard to find media over the last several months, and I would highly recommend we work to protect this invaluable resource
Friend of the Court Briefs Filed in Internet Archive’s Appeal — Hundreds of librarians joined prominent library organizations & non-profits in filing amicus briefs in Hachette v. Internet Archive. Read why they believe our appeal should succeed:
CBM fans: Wait, what do you mean that wasn't Ryan Reynolds in the Deadpool suit? I couldn't even tell!
Toku fans: we are so familiar with our suit actors, we play a game where we guess the suit actor by how their ass looks in the spandex.
It's unfortunate this crossover somewhat only exists due to a real-life tragedy, but, as a piece of storytelling and world building in the Power Rangers universe, it's SO well done.
Alright, I was explaining where to start Power Rangers to someone and realized this should be a thread.
Here it is, the definitive, 100% correct, indisputable Power Rangers watch guide
Genuinely, this is awful.
For a guy who has spent over a decade analyzing every blade of grass in each Pokemon game, finding nuance in their themes and historical inspirations, to boil the entire tokusatsu genre down to "silly stuff for kids" is quite hypocritical and ignorant
Understanding who the guys on the left are is important to understanding American Pop Culture
Understanding who the guys on the right are is important to understanding Japanese Pop Culture
Has a belt attached to his body like an organ
Fights another species to protect people
(Seemingly) only has a handful of forms that each are very distinct in fighting style
Welcome back, Kamen Rider Kuuga. Just in time for your 25th anniversary next year
My big personal issue with modern Kamen Rider isn't the toys. It's the scale
I don't want big cgi fantasy worlds, or powerscaling, or wiki dumps
I like when Kamen Rider is just 20 minutes of J-Drama set in a laundromat or coffee shop with a 2 minute fight bookending the episode
This needs to end.
This kid is entering middle school age, and they still have him pretending to be a preschooler. He is NOT going to adjust well to the real world.
This show has been this kids' entire life. They need to end it for his sake.
The iconic Ibaragi rock quarry featured in various tokusatsu, including many of the fights in Power Rangers, is used as a boss arena in No More Heroes 3.
Travis openly acknowledges the location and even name drops Kamen Rider Zi-O as being a show filmed here.
The only way you can watch the First Season of Power Rangers Beast Morphers is through piracy.
The only reason Kamen Rider and Super Sentai have Western fanbases is because of piracy.
Preservation of content the show owners won't make accessible keeps series like this alive
Piracy isn't okay. It's good see illegal sites like KimCartoons shut down. If you actually want to support these shows legally, go watch them on their official streaming service or live TV.
Some lines in SpongeBob just live in my head and I think of them whenever someone says basic and very common phrases, for example:
"Who knows? I think YOU KNOWS!!"
The complete and utter FAILURE of the Power Rangers brand to capitalize on the Samurai nostalgia continues to baffle me.
Samurai was averaging almost 3 million viewers an episode! And you just ignore it?
The kids who watched Samurai are that coveted early-late 20's demographic!
"What's this Rusty Rabbit game"
- developed by Nitro Plus
"Alright sure"
- conceptual planning by Gen Urobuchi
"Uhhhh"
- the main character rabbit is voiced by Takaya Kuroda & he's just doing his Kiryu voice in it
"What the"
Sky is a really good example of a "flawed" Power Ranger
He consistently is the most judgmental, snobbish, turn his nose up type. He assumes he knows everything and makes the best choices. Which gets him into trouble alot.
SPD doesn't work without the Jack & Sky story.
The most epic thing just happened at PMC. Eka met his Sentai counterpart and they did their henshins together. Yasuhisa-san you did a great job.

Its crazy that these Sentai are just never going to get a "proper" adaptation
Say what you want about the resulting PR seasons; but at the end of the day, these shows, characters, storylines were stripped bare for parts
I'd love to see what a "proper" adaptation would have been
Kento Handa literally looks like a time traveler whenever he comes on to promote new Faiz merch.
I can't criticize him for dressing the way he thought was cool as a kid, I'm often guilty of it myself.
It's just SUCH a stark contrast to his most popular character.
This still puts a smile on my face 12 and a half years later.
The legendary Kenji Ohba as:
Shirou Akebono/Battle Kenya
Daigoro Oume/DenziBlue
Retsu Ichijouji/Space Sheriff Gavan

Is it me or does every Red Power Ranger look feminine as hell... no muscles or soft non masculine features... Unlike the average man.
Pic from the show on the left, fan made on the right. Hire fans lol
The fact it's the year 2022 and we still have this format of toku character profiles being made is honestly nice. Very nostalgic. Who even makes these anyways?
Everybody always brings up Jesse Pinkman playing Sonic 06, but nobody ever mentions him depressed and bringing a girl up to his room, us thinking he's gonna have sex with her, and instead he loads up a round of Sonic All-stars Racing
Y'all ever see this awesome album cover for Rider Chips' song "Deep Breath"?
With Agito being the 30th Anniversary of the franchise, it homages the old Kamen Rider Potato Chips Packaging.
Rider... Chips. 😅
It's crazy that in the span of only two years, we technically got to see all 5 Dino Thunder Rangers on screen again, despite none of them talking to each other or the show having any formal acknowledgement of the series at all.
The oversexualization of Kamen Rider Kivala on the internet is super weird because Natsumi was a fairly modest girl. She was very much "the girl next door"
Most of the flirtatious or "sexy" features come from the voice and mannerisms of the Kivala Bat herself.
@Cameara_Parody
Valerie Vernon, who played Kendrix, was diagnosed with leukemia during filming of Lost Galaxy
She left the show to go receive treatment, and originally the plan was to have Patricia Ja Lee reprise her role of Cassie as the Pink Galaxy ranger, & this crossover was to set that up
Someone just dropped this teaser for a game that takes place in the world of the 1928 classic, Steamboat Willie, featuring Mickey Mouse.
Excited to see how this game turns out.
Zordon's famous rule is "never escalate a battle unless an enemy forces you to"
Literally, the first battle after Zordon goes back home and his replacement Dimitria is in charge;
If we are basically gonna start over with a franchise reboot ala Samurai, then KingOhger is really the only season I see landing with the same level of gravitas and prestige in a way.
Royal Knights with fancy armor just FEELS like a big jump visually than anything prior.
My biggest criticism is that these suits look like if you fed an AI a bunch of Power Rangers teams and asked them to create a design.
Sentai suits try to innovate and be something new each year. Even if they borrow some concept from the past, they always look distinct
This Pink Ranger has more personality in just a single panel than so many other characters get in a full series. You have no idea.

And so there we have it, the Mighty Morphin cast is completely gone.
...and frankly, it's easy to say in hindsight, but it was well needed.
It's clear that by now they were out of ideas for the old cast, and it was time to rip the band-aid off and start fresh.
I'm excited.
@itsDanielPika
Most people go by the "Gokaiger Rule" but there are rangers who are technically fifth like Trent are counted as the sixth but Dominic, who is also a fifth isn't counted as a sixth.
You also have Mike who fits the mold as a sixth but he's counted as an extra.
Very Confusing
I think Shout heard us complaining about Kamen Rider in the West, and is (with no disrespect to them intended), trying to fix a burst dam with a roll of duct tape.
Keiji Fujiwara just passed away. He'd been doing anime voicework for over 25 years. I know him best as Cheeda Nick in Go-Busters, & Nishitani in Yakuza 0. But many know him best as Hues in Full Metal Alchemist, Axel/Lea, & Reno in Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy series. Such talent
"Kamen Rider Build" is truly a cultural cornerstone. Any time Japan gets into an argument, they use the shot of Japan being split into three by Skywall
the Goomba seeking a girlfriend was straight up transphobic towards Vivian in the original japanese version but in the remake he turns her down for being goth. what the hell is this guy's problem
I can't believe Power Rangers Zeo adapted Kingranger into the Gold Ranger just to have him in ONE episode, and then literally never use him ever again.
...so in the 1980's, a man named Haim Saban was on a business trip to Japan, and on his hotel TV, he watched an episode of a show called Chodenshi Bioman...
Does anyone have an article or a source where someone talks about WHY JDF and Catherine Sutherland wanted to leave the show?
I am reading conflicting information that they were locked into a contract for the first third of Turbo, & others saying they CHOSE to stick around.
Okay, semi-serious question;
How many of you have NEVER heard of the Heisei Rider Number Theory before?
It was hilarious, but it's also still totally real to me 😅
Brandon Jay is an ideal Power Rangers Actor;
Had a good time on the show, remembers it fondly, went on to bigger and brighter things, but still is always willing to talk to fans about it and embraces it as a part of his life.

You are telling me Hasbro can make a Spider-Man figure as diverse as THIS just fine, but the Kyuranger suits would require "too much molding" to be viable?
Bullshit. Hasbro, Just admit you don't respect the brand enough to invest that kind of money into it.
In an interview with Simon, he states that the Hasbro toy team wanted suits they could mold easily and they also never had confidence in the Kyuranger suits
One of these days, can we PLEASE get some kind of interaction between Dark Kiva and Kamen Rider Black?
I know Kiva was before the endless crossovers, but Kiva's past ends in 1987; the SAME YEAR Kamen Rider Black starts!
I think about this alot.
Carter wouldn't care if you slander him. He'd still come save you if you were in danger. That's the kind of guy he is.
He's an idealized fantasy, but dammit, he's someone I wish more people could be like in real life.
He embodies the Red Ranger ideology perfectly.
