For as long as the US, EU and NATO member states fail to recognise Kosovo as a sovereign and independent state and not their vassality and geopolitical field to stimulate their own sovereign, there can’t be peace in Kosovo nor end to Serbia’s aggression and interferences. Simple!
Now that we have three sequencing proposals made public, I did a very basic visual presentation of their sequencing!
Judge it for yourself which one is more balanced!
The Oxford Handbook of Peacebuilding, Statebuilding, and Peace Formation, that I co-edited with Oliver P. Richmond, has now been submitted to the publisher.
An immense amount of work, but worth every year spent on it😉. Grateful to all 40+ authors for excellent contributions.
Some personal news: I have been appointed by the Prime Minister of Albania as member of Accreditation Board, part of the Quality Assurance Agency in Higher Education. Looking forward to contributing to the enhancement of higher education institutions in Albania!
Some good news: I have been promoted to Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer)! Grateful to all the

Over a century ago, my family was forcefully displaced and dispossessed from the village of Visoka (present Nis region, Serbia). As
@albinkurti
said many years ago, for us the name is given by the parents and surname by the (dis)place! Hence the surname Visoka!
Smells like Ukraine is 'exploting' the question of the recognition of Kosovo to re-engage with Serbia!
Tactical but unethical, as Kosovo provided Ukraine unconditional support, and Serbia didn't!
Відкрита, чесна, продуктивна розмова з Президентом Сербії Вучичем

Хороша розмова. Про повагу до Статуту ООН і непорушності кордонів.

My father passed away two years ago this day. He left me his
#Kosovo
war memoirs (The March of Death) written in 1999. I promised him to publish them one day. The 100 page manuscript tells a powerful story of the everyday dynamics of survival and the emergent ethics of war.
20 years ago today
@NATO
intervened in
#Kosovo
&
#Serbia
to protect civilians. I was 13 at that time, internally displaced by Serbian regime. My movement permit in a concentration camp is proof that if
#NATO
hadn’t intervened, ethnic cleansing & collective annihilation was next!
For too long, students have studied state recognition without a properly designated textbook. Yesterday, I have signed the contract with Routledge to write that so much-needed textbook:
'Statehood and Recognition: An Introduction'
To be published in 2022 (as paperback).
This is what a happy editor looks like! Two years of hard work and here you have a 500 pages volume.
Thanks to
@JohnDoyleDCU
and
@ProfTedNewman
for being fab co-editors and to all 30+ authors for their valuable contribution!
“Kosovo, the Balkan nation that tends to produce some of the region’s most intractable problems..”
Like what? Continue to exist, try to live as a sovereign nation, seek peace with justice, recognition and participation an an equal?
Happy to announce that Oliver Richmond & myself have signed the contract w/ Palgrave Macmillan to edit 'The Palgrave Encyclopaedia of Peace and Conflict Studies', which will be a major living reference work in the field. Details later.

Coming from
#Kosovo
and having written extensively on the peace/conflict there, my reading of the existing tensions is as follows: while Serbia bears primary responsibility for escalating the conflict, we are seeing the EU & US indirectly use the crisis as ‘coercive’ diplomacy.
Want to write your PhD thesis under my supervision and apply for a fully funded scholarship?
I am happy to consider applications on digital peacebuilding, state recognition, counter-peace, and international peace architecture!
Wrong. Serbia is generator of instability in Kosovo through its parallel structures; obstacle to normalisation through its denial of Kosovo's statehood; & conductor of diplomatic aggression through its derecognition campaign. 'Srpski svet' is the only unfolding hegemonic project!
Belgrade is the generator of stability in K&M and
@albinkurti
is an obstacle to any normalization, cause he disrupts the dialogue.
When it comes to hegemonic goals, it would be enough if Kurti would stop advocating creation of the Greater Albania and all problems would be gone!

Drafting currently the introduction and conclusion for the Routledge Handbook of State Recognition! With over 30 chapters, it will be a unique and amazing collection of concepts, theories, and cases on state recognition. Coming out in this September. More details soon.
This book ‘The Derecognition of States’ has been in the making for a while and sort of finalised for some time but finally going to production soon!

As worse as

#westsplaining
: men and women with colonial and Eurocentric mentality explaining to the local subjects in post-conflict societies how to behave, keep peace, build states, reconcile, and comply with externally imposed things!
Well, I can't hide my excitement to see The Routledge Handbook of State Recognition, that I co-edited with
@JohnDoyleDCU
and
@ProfTedNewman

I learned today that Dick Marty in 2006 led a report on human rights violations in Chechnya but Russia blocked any meaningful action. However in 2010 Russia backed & supported Dick Marty's report on Kosovo which led to the Specialist Court. The (in)justice of power politics!
What a great pleasure and privilege to co-edit with Oliver P. Richmond 'The Oxford Handbook of Peacebuilding, Statebuilding, and Peace Formation'. Forthcoming in 2020, the handbook will have 46 chapters written by leading scholars that cover most important topics in the field.
Haradinaj resignation is game-changer for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. Not sure it will benefit transitional justice processes. By prosecuting selectively Kosovo's leadership while tolerating Serbia's leaders who deny genocide & war crimes won't contribute to regional reconciliation.
Kosovo is moving from receptive (passive) to suggestive (active) approach to peacemaking talks w/ Serbia.

‘Joint declaration on non-aggression, non-belligerency & peaceful resolution of conflicts’
After four years, I am stepping down as Deputy Editor of Peacebuilding Journal (
@Peacebuilding_
) to focus on my core research projects.
It has been a pleasure to collaborate with the editorial team, hundreds of authors, and reviewers to publish impactful peacebuilding research!
Aware of tremendous int'l pressure on Kosovo to make concessions as part of the dialogue with Serbia, PM
@albinkurti
needs to investigate whether past agreements, inc. that of 19 April 2013, were concluded under duress. If so, Kosovo would be then released from the obligations.
Happy to announce that the University of Michigan Press (
@UofMPress
) will publish my next book monograph:
'The Derecognition of States'
This will be the first comprehensive study of state derecognition in theory and practice.
Sincere thanks to
@ElizabethDemers
and reviewers.
NATO in this press release in order to appease Serbia goes beyond the usual status neutrality (even worse than the EU). It avoids addressing Albin Kurti as the Prime Minister of the Government of Kosovo, while it addresses Goran Rakic as the Head of the Serbian List party.
Thrilled that our
@UofMPress
forthcoming book now has a cover!
The image captures aspects of our book where we explore how discourses and practices of normalization (inc. civilization) constantly abnormalize others!

Political terrorism and sectarian bloodletting—these are the horrors that occur in the Balkans or the Middle East. Not here. Not in the land of the free. We’re better than this. We’re Americans. Except now the horror show has arrived on our shores. Me:

Thank you all for following, liking, and retweeting our posts!
Next month 'Normalization in World Politics' will be published in hardback, paperback, and as open access e-book.
The book provides a timely critique of how normalcy is imposed, restored, and accepted in world politics.
Stay tuned for more details!

'Normalization in World Politics' looks at the discourses and practices of imposing, restoring & accepting normalcy in broad range of cases.
We have the cover for the print version of the Palgrave Encyclopedia of Peace and Conflict Studies (

As I am near completion of the Derecognition of States book, I look forward to presenting the main findings next week at Lancaster Law School.
The Derecognition of States in Theory and Practice , Thursday 25 November, 1:00pm | Lancaster University
Let’s remember that NATO’s intervention was a consequence of Russia’s ‘hidden veto’ to a consensual, legal, and UN-led response to Kosovo war!
Abusing with the veto power at UNSC is a major problem, which usually blocks peace, prolongs crises, and triggers interventions!
This was my first book, based on my PhD thesis. I introduced the concept of peace figuration as sociological framework to measure the impacts of peacebuilding interventions in practice!

Intentions, Events and Consequences of Liberal Peacebuilding', by

in the coming days/weeks, I would like to share five thoughts on why it is rewarding to take such an administrative role.
Kremlin-style rehearsal of militancy and aggression in the name of protecting co-nationals outside its borders! A by product of EU-US-NATO appeasement policy of Serbia’s warmongering and hostile conduct since 1999!
JUST IN 🚨 Serbian military bring armored vehicles and fly jets near border as tensions rise between Kosovo and Serbia. Kosova’s PM Albin Kurti accused Serbia of "encouraging and supporting" attacks on the state of Kosovo.
My forthcoming book ‘Acting Like a State: Kosovo and the Everyday Making of Statehood’ almost done. Will come out next summer with
@Rout_PoliticsIR
Interventions series.
This week, the US has made more explicit its foreign policy on Kosovo. In addition to dialogue with, and mutual recognition, between Kosovo and Serbia, now the US has included integration in Euro-Atlantic structures (read NATO & EU membership) in their policy statement on Kosovo!
At the moment all the content of the Palgrave Encyclopedia of Peace and Conflict Studies (

The book will provide a complete account of how regional organisations, such as the European Union, shape the norms and politics of state recognition.
'Routledge Handbook of State Recognition' is now published as paperback.
The handbook contains 36 chapters covering all aspects of statehood and recognition in world politics.
It is a valuable resource for research and teaching!
Unbelievable arrogance! Such misrecognition is a contemporary manifestation of culturocide, colonial-like theft, and deliberate destruction of cultural heritage!
Who are those people? So-called "Kosovo" is neither a State nor a member of
@UNESCO
and its conventions! It’s clear that they are falsely presenting themselves!
Delighted that Peacebuilding Journal now is accepted into SSCI (Social Sciences Citation Index). We expect our first impact factor later this year! We are already into Scopus.
Check out our latest articles and consider submitting a paper!
Not only enemies (West vs Russia/China), but also ‘frenemies’ (Germany vs France) continue to use the Balkans as battlefield to assert their dominance!
Eg. France now has come against Germany on Kosovo’s bid to join
@coe
, after blocking visa liberalisation for over a decade!
This is untrue, as most of Russia's claims on Kosovo these days! In 1991, Kosovo held an independence referendum but wasn't recognised by other states. In 2008, it declared its independence following the UN mediator's proposal for supervised independence and talks with Serbia.
💬
#Lavrov
: Compare
#Kosovo
and

in Kosovo. Still, Kosovo was immediately recognised as an independent state by most of the Western countries. 🔗

Serbian FM says Sierra Leone revoked recognition of Kosovo.
We knew that Serbia & Russia were using derecognitions as conflict ripeness strategy, but now I think the silence of Kosovo's 'allies' makes them complicit in this diplomatic aggression.
Ukraine is reconsidering it’s position on Kosovo, according to
@ChairOlek
because:
- Ukraine’s new closest allies (USA, UK, and most of EU) recognise Kosovo;
- Kosovo is openly supporting Ukraine and Serbia is not.

Kosovo and Albania should have sufficient moral capacity to condemn attacks on civilians in Gaza and other parts of Israel/OPT, while also condemn

Is it just me or you are also getting tired of these dry EU statements on Kosovo which contain nothing but passive aggressive language reminding Kosovo how it is never sufficient what it achieves while rarely recognising anything positive!
