The Artist is not responsible for the task of developing the Nigerian music industry. We need execs, journalists, government officials and other stakeholders to do that. Our artists are just the flag bearers for the messages we need to pass on.

But sometimes we need to be calming down. Artists have to create edits of their songs with features without the feature verse and if the band have been rehearsing that version then they will play that version. Experience is important in this industry.

African music is currently the medium for cultural and intellectual interchange between Africa and its diaspora. This is why it must be protected. It’s potential for growth outside of the continent is endless as long as Africans continue to be transnational.

Afrobeats and afrofusion are two sides of the same knife. As for the others I don’t know. There is no afro highlife or afro emo or afro rave. Afrobeats/afrofusion is music that fuses other genres (hip hop, rnb and so on) with African beat pattern + rhythm and expression.

We rarely see the combo of: an Artist, who is also a Musician + an Entertainer = without decades of training. That’s why Artist development (creative bootcamps, vocal lessons, performance coaching, styling team etc) were imperative + still is for a long culturally relevant career

The issue is not isolated to African music okay. It applies to most things originating outside of the Western world. = We cannot solve it until we stop pandering to the West = To reduce our pandering to the West we must build sustainable economies and infrastructures.

Most artists are not concerned with development. They want to make as much as they can to better their own lives and you can’t blame them for that. We need people that are conversant on the issues the industry is facing to advocate for socio-economic development.
