Reflecting on my own pitch to *very* similar fund back then, I asked “How will Black developers benefit from this if they have to work for free first?” after being turned away and told to bring a prototype
I was the only Black person on the call and told “That’s just how it is”
As the game industry continues to get rocked, I think this new Polygon article about the funding gap for games and studios built by marginalized creators is more crucial than ever.

This is deeply felt and compounded when you’re underrepresented in the industry.
Marginalized devs not only need access to funding but have access to fund and support others. Access is equity.
The biggest independent frustration is pitching a game for years, being told it's "too risky" or there's "no market" and then seeing the idea pulled off in a less creative, formulaic way by a AAA or VC funded team.
