The mainstream media doesn't do much right these days IMHO, but kudos to them for banding together when the White House tried to single out a reporter for "inappropriate" questions.Nice to see you can at least stand up for your OWN constitutional rights.

This is a constitutional violation here. The Press is protected by by THE VERY FIRST AMENDMENT. That's how important it is. Those of you who don't agree with it can take it up with the framers.

Everytime I see the POTUS do something deeply disturbing (the latest being the Joe Scarborough accusations) I keep trying to figure out where our bottom is in terms of things.Since I've already been proven too optimistic on this question multiple times,I'll refrain from guessing.

I'm sure I don't have to state the obvious here: one of the biggest dangers we would face right now is open mass violence between protesters and Trump supporters in the streets. That would open up the door to potentially horrible, horrible outcomes.

1. My God...the comments by some in the comments sections of news stories trying to support/defend/explain/deflect the blame/guilt of the two men who killed Ahmad Arbery are disgusting. A total inability on the part of those people to imagine themselves in that situation at all.

Yes this sort of stuff is beyond the pale in a free society.Regardless of one's political persuasion no one should be supporting this. Libertarians,Liberals,Greens (etc) & conservatives should be able to agree that we as citizens have constitutional rights-and these violate them

Little bit of history: remember how during the civil rights era those who were on the other side of the issue kept blaming "communists" and "Northern Agitators" (in the South) as a way to make it look as though without those bad actors,everyone was just happy and fine?

I remember arguing about some of these same points of over-the-top police reactions during the Clinton administration (anyone remember those?) conservatives were often outraged over heavy-handed military type tactics (Ruby Ridge?) and I agreed with them.Because they were correct.

*sigh*.Can't we look at collective human behavior a bit (crowds for example) & understand that once riots start there is no leadership/control?Blaming groups/leaders/individuals for not keeping them "peaceful" shows a lack of understanding about the actual dynamics on the ground.

It's such an important point. Whatever powers you're OK with a president having, you need to imagine them being used against you later by somebody you absolutely hate in the office. People leave the office...the powers remain. Stay safe!

Just looking at unmarked LEOs that are all in the news right now, many are from agencies like The bureau of alcohol tobacco and firearms. I remember hearing from AMconservative talk show hosts how scared I should be of all the bullets, etc these agencies were buying...years ago.

This was quite a moment. Protest has been peaceful and several legislators (all Dem) have addressed the protesters. @brotherjones_ asked the National Guard to drop their shields, and they did.

If that were true,think about who you would owe a "thank you" to for pushing racial progress forward (like ending "separate but equal"). I know that any such involvement by "communists" in that movement was a drop in a bucket-99.9% of it was due to Americans protesting injustice.

1. One thing to remember: the system (ANY govt system) can better deal with low level violent civil disorder than peaceful civil disobedience. Violence undercuts potential allies and gives excuses and material from which to craft false equivalencies to current opponents.

I've seen BIG riots, up close. Trying to connect the big political reasons that sparked them to the looting and vandalism you see on the ground is difficult...but it's so totally predictable it's like a Jenga game with humans. Eventually it's one too many blocks.
