Good people will vote for Harris.
Good people will vote third party.
Good people will vote for Trump.
I don't think each vote is equally correct, but our vote does not define our character. How we treat people does. It's the ends-justifies-the-means ethos that corrupts us.
Comedian Pete Davidson mocked a permanently-wounded veteran. That’s bad.
But the actual Republican president of the United States mocked a permanently-wounded veteran for being captured. I’m completely uninterested in GOP crocodile tears over a comedian. Pathetic. Really.
My daughter Camille just gave birth to our first grandchild, a beautiful baby named Lila.
Sweet Lila has a serious birth defect and is undergoing surgery at Vanderbilt. We would appreciate your prayers for Lila, for Lila’s parents, for the surgeons, and the NICU stay to follow.
I promise you this. I have seen American soldiers treat al Qaeda terrorists with more professionalism and less fear than these cops treated a crying, scared drunk guy. It’s infuriating.
A no quarter order is a war crime, prohibited even in actual insurrection since Abraham Lincoln's signed the Lieber Code in 1863. Such an order is banned by international law and would, if carried out, be murder under American law.
And, if necessary, the 10th Mountain, 82nd Airborne, 1st Cav, 3rd Infantry—whatever it takes to restore order. No quarter for insurrectionists, anarchists, rioters, and looters.
The potential insider trading is dreadful and possibly criminal, but what could elevate this to a historic scandal is the idea that senators may have known enough to be alarmed for themselves yet still projected rosy scenarios to the public AND failed to make sure we were ready.
One other data point: Loeffler had not made a single stock transaction during the three weeks she served in office prior to this one. This was her first. The day she got the coronavirus briefing.
Red Hen has a right to refuse service.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders has a right to complain.
Potential customers have a right to make their own decisions.
I have a right to try to persuade people to stop politicizing everything.
Freedom is easy to figure out-hard to execute.
There is no universe that exists under which all the MAGA-folks wouldn’t be calling for Hillary’s impeachment or resignation under similar facts. So take that into account when you read their defenses.
The mask culture war has got to be one of the dumbest and most destructive political/cultural disputes in modern American political history. And we're continuing to pay the price.
I remember being told to chill out about the alt-right.
It was just memes. It was just trolling. It was just trying to trigger the libs.
Then it was a terror attack in Charlottesville.
Then it was manifestos. Then it was massacres.
Burn it down. This is a defining moment.
Let's just be clear -- there is now evidence that Trump was pursuing a substantial personal business relationship with our chief geopolitical foe long after he wrapped up the GOP nomination.
Regardless of the legality of his actions, this is not acceptable.
The basic message of much of the MAGA side of this website is boiled down to this:
"Only Trump can save this nation from the chaos he's not saving it from now."
I'm not sure that's compelling.
It is deeply disturbing that -- virtually everywhere -- the concerted litigation strategy of the GOP is to make sure that fewer votes count. The strategy goes far, far beyond any legitimate concern about fraud.
There were zero votes for the TX AG on the merits, including zero votes from Trump appointees. It was a clown suit from the beginning, and 126 representatives, 18 state AG’s, and a host of prominent right-wing activists beclowned themselves by supporting it.
Last year, conservative wives looked at the furious attack on Kavanaugh and thought, "That could be my husband." Now conservative moms look at the wild attempt to destroy the Covington kids and think, "That could be my son."
I'm breaking my Twitter fast to ask for prayer.
My brilliant, courageous, and beautiful wife has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. She has a long, hard road ahead, but we trust God. May he bless and comfort her as she endures this terrible trial.
I promised to restore hope in America. That includes the least among us. Together, let’s KEEP AMERICA GREAT!
Text TRUMP to 88022 if you liked our Super Bowl ad!
Please someone help me with this.
Georgetown Prep boys frequently committed gang rape.
Lots of people knew they were committing gang rape.
And despite this common knowledge no one has talked publicly for three decades, until the day before a crucial Senate hearing.
What?
UPDATE: Gianna “Gigi” Bryant, 13, a daughter of Kobe Bryant, was also killed in the helicopter crash in California, a Calabasas city official tells
@NBCNews
.
A teammate of Gianna, the teammate’s parent and the pilot were also killed.
From a law of war standpoint, Israel's pager bombs represent one of the most precisely targeted strikes in the history of warfare. I can't think of a single widespread strike on an armed force that's embedded in a civilian population that's been more precise. It's remarkable.
How many contemporaneously-corroborated reports of sexual assault do Republicans need to read — or tapes bragging about sexual assault do Republicans need to hear — before they understand the president is a likely sex predator?
I disagree with many Biden policies, but on a human level, I'm happy for him. He's suffered such heartbreak in his life. He was mocked for running after two bad losses. He ran a campaign focused on unity and healing. And a record number of Americans put him in the Oval Office.
Paul Manafort met with a Russian lawyer to try to obtain dirt on Hillary. He shared confidential campaign information with a Russian agent.
Roger Stone tried to establish a back channel to a Russian asset, Wikileaks, to help the Trump campaign.
Both pardoned. Pure corruption.
President Trump: "In a key sentence in my remarks I said the word 'would' instead of 'wouldn't'…the sentence should have been, 'I don't any reason why it wouldn't be Russia.' Sort of a double-negative."
Pete Davidson’s father died trying to save others when Davidson was a young boy. Crenshaw not only honored a true hero, he also softened American hearts towards Davidson, casting him in a new light. He’s a man who carries his own pain.
When a president survives a disease after a three-day hospitalization - and that disease has killed more than 200,000 of his fellow citizens and sickened friends and colleagues at his own workplace - then his posture should be one of humble gratitude, not boasting and bravado. /1
This is a ridiculously stupid tweet. Any sentient person knows that if a Muslim terrorist killed 49 Christians *in church* in New Zealand, it would be the biggest news in the world.
Any act of terror is evil. But if a Muslim guy shot up a church in New Zealand it would not be news here. The media is going crazy over this
#MosqueAttack
for one reason: it fits their narrative. Muslims good, white man bad! So part of the story here is how
#FakeNews
is made
Want to know what media bias looks like?
Warren releases DNA results that confirm that she misled employers, students, and the public for years.
All too many members of the media treat it as if she _proved_ her claims.
It’s nuts.
This is vile. Almost every week he does something that would cause GOP politicians to call for the impeachment or resignation of a Democratic POTUS. Some of his comments are so deranged they raise 25th Amendment concerns. But still they march, in lockstep, behind dear leader.
A blow to her head? Body found under his desk? Left Congress suddenly? Big topic of discussion in Florida...and, he’s a Nut Job (with bad ratings). Keep digging, use forensic geniuses!
I'm a longtime, quite open critic of Donald Trump. I'm supremely cynical about his conduct. Yet even I was surprised at the sheer scope, scale, and brazenness of the lies, falsehoods, and misdirections detailed by the Special Counsel’s Office. Intolerable:
When evaluating the Mueller report, there are important questions beyond the existence of a conspiracy. A free people should ask what kind of man they want at the helm of the world's greatest nation. It should not be this man:
We’re so used to posturing and talking points and brand management from politicians that it’s almost breathtaking to witness actual courage, resolve, and leadership. No one pretends Zelensky isn’t flawed, but the man is rising to the moment.
⚡️Ukraine’s Zelensky posts a new video of himself and his team outside the presidential administration in Kyiv’s government quarter after rumors in Russian media that he’d fled. “We are here. We are in Kyiv. We are defending Ukraine.”
Biden’s gun plan? It could destroy the gun industry for selling lawful, constitutionally-protected products and impair Americans’ right of self-defense. So, no.
Tell me again that character doesn’t matter.
Tell me again that the only concern about Trump is with his “manners.”
You monumental hypocrites and cowards. Look what you’ve done.
283 days after her diagnosis, Nancy's treatments are done.
And she's cancer free!
It's been a long, hard road, but we're so grateful for our family, our friends, and our church. You lifted us up.
Most of all, thanks be to God for his mercy and grace.
If you’re an innocent man, the idea that you should calmly deal with the destruction of your reputation, the assault on your family, and the threats on your life is one of the worst takes I’ve ever read.
Abrams tanks are very impressive and cool. This isn't prep for martial law. It's not Tiananmen Square. Kids will love to see them. Many adults will also. It's totally normal in America to have military air shows, etc. No one should be scared by this, truly.
The contrast between the outpouring of love for McCain in his last days and the astonishing vitriol directed at him in 2000 and 2008 demonstrates once again how disingenuous, low, and cheap American politics were well before Trump came on the scene.
Watching POTUS in recent days, his behavior is so bad that you'd worry about his stability even if he was merely the assistant to the regional manager at Dunder Mifflin. Even most of his supporters would be alarmed at behavior like that from their bosses in their own workplaces.
The failure to impeach *and* convict this man after January 6 was inexcusable and may prove one of the more fateful decisions in modern American history.
One thing that I see political analysts get wrong all the time. They over-estimate the extent to which Trump supporters know about (or believe) the various Trump scandals. There is simply a gigantic knowledge gap between the politically-engaged subculture and everyone else.
Regardless of whether that manifesto is real, this is still true:
We should be treating online alt-right/white supremacist radicalization with the exact seriousness we treat online jihadist radicalization.
If that manifesto is real, then this is especially true.
This is astonishing. The sheer number of American vets the Trumpists will insult, slander, and mock for the sake of their corrupt, draft-dodging dear leader is just astonishing.
....If the Democrats are successful in removing the President from office (which they will never be), it will cause a Civil War like fracture in this Nation from which our Country will never heal.” Pastor Robert Jeffress,
@FoxNews
1) The guy is real (no way the NYT puts forth a fake source);
2) His story is likely largely true (perhaps exaggerated at the margins);
3) He’s just made things worse.
4) Anonymous leaking won’t take down Trump. A person of honor speaking openly would have far more impact
So sorry to hear the news about Jeff Bozo being taken down by a competitor whose reporting, I understand, is far more accurate than the reporting in his lobbyist newspaper, the Amazon Washington Post. Hopefully the paper will soon be placed in better & more responsible hands!
FREE MAN: Corey Atchison, who served 28 years in prison for a murder he did not commit, walked out of an Oklahoma prison after a district judge dropped the charges.
"I can't hold no grudge," he said. "Life's too short."
1. The acquittal was proper--Rittenhouse presented evidence that he was chased and attacked at every turn.
2. He's no hero. He never should have been there. The effort on the right to turn him into a model of citizen action is dangerous:
It's almost as if some folks on this website don't realize that if we lift the lid too soon, then we still get a ruined economy but with even more sickness and death. We need a light at the end of the tunnel. It just shouldn't be the oncoming train.
Here's a part of the Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib Israel story that you've likely not read.
They planned the trip with a vile, vicious anti-Semitic group that spread blood libel, printed neo-nazi propaganda, and celebrates terrorists who kill children:
NBC's
@PeterAlexander
asks Trump what he'd say to Americans who are frightened.
Trump goes on rant against Alexander, says he asked a "nasty question," calls him a "terrible reporter" and attacks NBC and Comcast.
Fighting between various groups that has been going on for hundreds of years. USA should never have been in Middle East. Moved our 50 soldiers out. Turkey MUST take over captured ISIS fighters that Europe refused to have returned. The stupid endless wars, for us, are ending!
It’s important to honor political courage. Georgia’s GOP Secretary of State has defied POTUS and he’s defied his home state senators to do his job and defend the integrity of the election. This is what it looks like to choose country over a broken party.
Georgia’s Republican secretary of state posted several fact checks on his official Facebook page Sunday correcting misinformation about the election promoted by President Trump and his campaign.
Roger Stone's commutation is corrupt. Full stop.
It's worth remembering what he did, and why it was right and necessary to investigate the Trump campaign's attempts to cooperate and/or collude with Russians and Russian assets to gain an advantage in the 2016 election. /1
DO NOT MEANS-TEST CASH RELIEF, a thread:
1) Relying on 2018 or 2019 income for a 2020 crisis is deeply misguided; many people who were doing fine are now in crisis;
2) The virus is disproportionately impacting people who live in expensive cities, don't leave them behind; /1
The U.S. is experiencing a direct physical attack on our democracy that was egged on by the president of the United States. This wasn’t just foreseeable. It was foreseen. We watched it unfold step-by-step, and when we raised the alarm, we were accused of TDS.
Musk is referring here to Biden team requests to remove pornographic pictures of Hunter. Biden was not president in 2020, and therefore there was no government involvement in his campaign's requests. The First Amendment is not implicated when only private actors are involved.
The moment Amber Guyger opened the door to an apartment that wasn’t her own, she wasn’t operating as a police officer clothed with the authority of the law. She was an armed home invader. Her victim didn't have to obey a single one of her commands:
Update: Lila's surgery went well and seems to have been a success. We'll know more in the next few days, but things are going better than expected. Praise God!
@NancyAFrench
and I so appreciate the outpouring of support for little Lila. There are many good folks on this website.
There is absolutely no modern "whatabout" to compare to what a great many GOP politicians are trying to do to the American republic. It makes a court-packing effort look like Candy Land. If they get their way in court (they won't), they would break the country. There is no excuse
1. When you wear the uniform, you pledge to respond to a crisis with courage.
2. Some people will fail that test.
3. That failure is human but still must be punished.
4. But make that judgment with humility. Because none of us knows our true character until it’s tested.
By the way, the porn affairs and hush money payments by themselves are enough for me to never, ever vote for Trump.
And that’s just one thing, of many.
I remember the days, like way back in, say, May 2015, when that would have been a consensus Evangelical position.
He’s talking about a guy with three Purple Hearts, two silver stars, and who commanded 24th ID in Desert Storm, leading the attack that led to one of the most decisive military victories in American history. This is such a sad and shameful attack on an honorable man.
Your entire time in military leadership we won zero wars. You drank fine wine at bullshit security conferences while thousands of working class kids died on the battlefield. Oh, by the way, how much do you stand to gain financially from a war with Russia, Barry?
I haven’t conducted a cross-examination since 2014. But if I couldn’t walk a witness through the transcript of Trump’s call with Zelensky and demonstrate to a jury that a quid pro quo was likely, then I should just hang up my suit. The evidence is there.
I'm seeing a lot of people calling the strike on Suleimani an "assassination." Some are even bringing up Reagan's EO 12333, prohibiting assassinations.
Killing an enemy commander, in a war zone, with a military strike conducted under the law of war is not an "assassination."
I hope and pray that the passings of Justice Scalia and now Justice Ginsburg don’t also herald the end of an era they modeled in their own relationship — when deep friendship could flourish across profound disagreements.
Defamation isn’t protected speech. The message sent is that lying about the parents of murdered children has legal consequences, including compensatory and punitive damages. It’s basic American law, not “Regime” retaliation.
This isn't about calculating real damages from Alex Jones. This is about sending a message: If you upset the Regime, they will destroy you, completely and utterly, forever.
I took a deep dive into the Ahmaud Arbery killing in Georgia, including examining the unbelievable "citizen's arrest" defense that would empower modern-day armed posses. My conclusion? Arrest the killers. Now.
To those in MAGAworld who denigrate Biden's performance because he was "reading it" or on a teleprompter, I'm old enough to remember when Trump botched his most important prepared address, from the Oval Office, at the onset of the pandemic, causing confusion across the globe.
At the end of the day, this is true:
Everything we know about leadership, Republicans threw away.
Everything we know about character, Republican Christians threw in the garbage.
They grievously hurt this nation. They grievously hurt their neighbors.
May God have mercy.
Ok, this should go without saying, but . . .
I am not required to obey the verbal commands of an unlawful intruder in my own home.
This case makes me sick to my stomach. So horrible.
I am told by law enforcement officers that this description will likely be a key in officer Guyger’s defense:
“Guyger drew her firearm, gave verbal commands that were ignored by...” the victim Botham Jean.
Nope. Nope. Nope.
Iran launched a missile strike against our own troops, and then blundered by shooting down a civilian airliner when it wasn't even under attack. That's the story. This is on Iran.
Innocent civilians are now dead because they were caught in the middle of an unnecessary and unwanted military tit for tat.
My thoughts are with the families and loved ones of all 176 souls lost aboard this flight.
In the pro-life party right now...
A shocking number of pro-life Republicans - who rightly ask women to carry children to term because life is so precious - aren't willing to endure the tiny inconvenience of wearing a piece of cloth on their faces to save others.
Dear Trump evangelicals. It looks like Trump has now been caught lying to you about paying off a porn star to silence reports about an affair shortly after his son was born. He had an affair. He paid hush money. He lied about it. Let that sink in. Is that your man?
"What began with a drone attack"
No. Tell that to the families of hundreds of slain Americans, to his tens of thousands of victims across the region.
The strike on Suleimani was completely justified.
Iran's tragic incompetence with its own missiles is its own fault.
“This is insane. Sickening. Imagine having a family member on that plane.” What began with a drone attack on a top Iranian general rippled outward until dozens of Iranian-Canadians, and dozens of Iranian students studying in Canada, were dead.
I write a piece about how the allegedly “manly” right is committed to petty trolling, and Hawley responds to the piece with petty trolling.
Thank you, Senator, for demonstrating my point.
One other thing I’d note in all the hate against the Covington kid: We have an adult banging his drum inches from a kid’s face. Putting aside political biases and just focusing on decency — who is more responsible for defusing a tense situation, the adult or the kid?
Our president is allegedly so concerned with transparent financial dealings and rooting out "corruption" that he urges even a communist regime to investigate his political foes.
Yet he won't release his own tax returns. And most of the congressional GOP seems just fine with that
