Opinionated account dedicated to Kenneth Branagh (& his past and present collaborators). Feminist, antiracist, body-positive, LGTBI+ ally, leftist. She/Her.
Images have been released of Kenneth Branagh’s King Lear - while our review is embargoed until tomorrow night, we can confirm that yes, it really does look like this
Kenneth Branagh about diversity and inclusion. He's been aware and working for it since the first Shakespeare play he directed in 1986. As the interviewer says, the world is just catching up.
"The thing with Branagh is, he just has a freaking unparalleled eye for casting. He’s so good at it. That’s what we would tell people: ‘If Ken says he’s the guy, then he’s the guy.’". Interesting read.
Chadwick Boseman as Drax. Alexander Skarsgård as Thor. John Krasinski as Captain America. The new book ‘MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios’ reveals the casting decisions that almost were.
Read an exclusive excerpt:
Answers to racists complaining about color blind casts these days should always include Ken casting Denzel Washington in Much Ado About Nothing. Even in 1993 he was more sensible than you f*** hateful racist shit.
"Kenneth Branagh is the most talented man I’ve ever met, as well as being one of the few actors I’m close to. If there’s one thing he hates it’s luvvies – he’s a working-class Belfast lad. We have a father-son relationship. But I’m the son and he’s the father." Brian Blessed
Just finished watching "Blue Eye Samurai". The truth bombs about British colonialism Ken's character drops are *chef kiss*. Let's hope there is a second season.
On the 15th there is a screening of In The Bleak Midwinter with Kenneth Branagh IN PERSON to talk about it later in London, what do you think? In the classifications of Branagh's films they almost always forget it, for me it would always be in his top 5 as a director-writer.
"He seems to physically age as the play progresses and Lear descends into madness."
So true, this was one of the things that most amazed me. It's so subtle but so striking.
Best of my wishes to all Ken's friends who will try to buy a ticket for the NYC Lear shows. I hope you all get fantastic seats to enjoy the experience. 🙏

If you are going into the Branagh bashing exercise (you are not special, the bashing has been there since the beginning of the 90s), at least get your facts right or watch/read a damn interview, ffs. To the rest of you, happy friday.
“The long pause, Lucy? I am a Shakespearean actor! Do you mean the ‘meaningful performance?’”. Once again, Ken not taking himself seriously 😂😂😂 Interview with Lucy Donaldson the editor of "A Haunting in Venice"
‘He is one of the best directors on the planet. He is one of the best actors of his generation. He’s one of the most intelligent people I’ve met and he also seems to work harder than almost anyone and that combination is pretty humbling and makes you just feel useless, frankly!’
EXCL: We sat down with Agatha Christie's great-grandson, who also serves as A Haunting in Venice's executive producer, to talk all things mystery, horror, Kenneth Branagh, his great-grandmother and that star-studded cast...

Hi there! This is an opinionated stan account about Kenneth Branagh and his past and present collaborators. This account is antiracist, body-positive, LGTBI+ friendly and defends the working class. I told you. It's…
I just watched a review of "Much Ado About Nothing" made by 2 guys where they refer to Benedick as "The guy from Harry Potter" and "Nanny McPhee's love interest" and I'm still recovering 😂😂😂
Me seeing people already bashing Sam Mendes possible adaptation of Hamnet mentioning “All is true” as a hidden gem that already dealt with Shakespeare’s family grief
I think they included Ken in the ensemble nominated list just to make him give the speech in case of winning because he is so damn good at it. 😂 He was effortlessly classy, thankful, humble and political. ✊
Quoting Henry V in the group chat like I'm erudite or smth when really Ken Branagh's version came out when I was 14 and it was SO COOL and he was SUPER cute ok
Baby theatre nerd losing my mind over the whole shebang. I can still do swathes from memory.
Sator and Kat are estranged partners in the film and, to lighten the mood on-set, Branagh and Debicki would play a game. They took turns in singing songs to which they didn’t know the words. Branagh was especially good at ad-libbing Les Miserables lyrics, apparently.

Those who say an artist should be stopped just because they don't like what they do are the ones who should be stopped. And even more so when they are doing some kind of cultural gatekeeping.
