This particular wayfinding sign in Union Station is messy and confusing, with clashing wayfinding systems and information that repeats and contradicts itself. @Metrolinx @Torontounion please fix the signage in the east end of the hallway behind the VIA Concourse.

Fun Fact: In 2012 a document from Metrolinx was released that proposed multiple solutions for the growing capacity issues at Union Station. Some of these solutions were tunnels under Toronto, and others were completely new lines. Here are 4 of the most interesting proposals:

For those unaware of the project, here are some older pictures from Metrolinx showing the outside of the station. Work is already underway to build this station, and it will be one of the largest stations on the GO network.

New renderings of the new Exhibition GO Station/TTC Ontario Line terminal have been posted on UrbanToronto. This station will replace the existing minimal 2 platform station, which will better serve people heading to conventions, festivals, TFC Games, and the CNE.

Fun Fact: Ever heard of the Woodbridge Line? This line was proposed in 1972 in a document published by the city of Toronto. Despite remaining unbuilt for 51 years, this line might become reality one day as the Bolton Line, which is currently under review by Metrolinx.

Did you know: the GO Transit Richmond Hill Line was first proposed back in 1969, 9 years before it opened! However it wasn’t originally going to terminate in Downtown Toronto:

Ever heard of GO ALRT? GO ALRT was an ambitious project that was going to revolutionise the region with frequent, faster, subways-style trains. The project was eventually cancelled in 1985 due to budget cuts. @GOtransit @RM_Transit

The UP Express Line has been represented by 5 different colours on wayfinding maps since its inception, most recently changing to a striped blue colour in April 2024. The UP Express is the third line represented by the colour blue on the GO network, out of eight lines in total.

@_ChanFace Why did Metrolinx suddenly change the colour for UP Express? Looks too similar to Barrie and Richmond Hill.

Here is a small but notable change; in the most recent GO Transit map update the Kitchener Line icon was updated. Previously the line was represented by a icon saying KT, this has been updated to KI:

Showing terminal stations instead of full line names was actually initially planned a few years ago as seen below. I think this is what’s going to happen after people get used to the line icons. However for the time being they should remove the “to/à” and replace it with “line”

@RM_Transit My hunch is that it says “to” because the line names will be swapped out for terminal stations once people become accustomed to the colourful line markers.

Just found out today that the @UPexpress has a coat of arms symbol, I would love a high quality version of this if one is still around…
