They had data showing that this would happen as far back as the 1960s. My father, born in 64, openly laughs about being shown data suggesting this would happen as a child and laughing about it. They've known the whole fucking time, and either think it's a lie or just don't care.

You have rights as tenants but most landlords just rely on the principle that if you're renting then you won't have money to take them to court, meaning they can basically just fuck with you for fun if they want. Sadly, they're right a lot of the time.
