Fleischer Studios created the Stereoptical Camera process in 1934, which allowed them to combine 2D animated characters with practical miniature sets. The first time I saw this in animation class, my jaw hit the floor. The character and set were photographed together in one pass.
Between darkness and defeat, hope survives.

The most terrifying part of the first alien movie isn’t even the xenomorph. It’s the space jockey
It’s just…there
A horrifying remnant of something that no one inside the film can even explain
This is PART 1 of 3 of an audio list of 60 theatres that will screen CADE-the tortured crossing. Also see PART 2 and PART 3 at the other posted tweets.
If ever a movie has aged like fine wine, it’s STARSHIP TROOPERS. Some of the best model work and CG animation of all time, and one of the most hilariously subversive scripts ever written. Chef’s kisses all around.
Great example of a foreground miniature in CONAN THE DESTROYER (1984) created by Emilio Ruiz Del Rio. Because it was a three dimensional object, the lighting would always match the background regardless of when they shot it.
when talking about a completely unrelated film, someone on a podcast took a stray shot at Unbreakable's ending saying it ends too soon. the sudden deflating nature of it is the entire point!! and it's probably Shyamalan's best ending bc of that.
Just got out of a full-house screening of RRR and I think if I smiled any wider my face would rip apart. One of the best theatre experiences I’ve ever had in my life.
I hope STAR TREK: PICARD focuses entirely on his fledgling wine business, and Starfleet is never mentioned. It's just Picard tasting wine and complaining about the weather.

I can officially announce that I’M now developing a new Star Wars trilogy for Disney.
UPDATE: I’m no longer developing a new Star Wars trilogy for Disney.
Over a year since Disney and Lucasfilm first announced they were joining,

creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have exited their planned

series
The very worried-looking robot wasn't just hired for the party, it's an actual character throughout the whole film and its name is Madonna. This movie has it all.
Anybody know who created this image of Rich Evans? I love it, but Google reverse image search brings me to the Wikipedia page for 'DARKNESS' (I am not joking).
I hope when The Emperor shows up in Ep. 9, he's like, got a sick mechanical spider body and he's always laughing and climbing on stuff like a spider.

I hope Tom Hooper doesn’t try to blame the VFX artists for CATS. He had an awful, misguided vision and the VFX team executed it, with him approving the look every step of the way.
Jurassic World 2 has a scene where a Raptor sniffs flammable gas, realizes what it is, then runs and jumps through a shattering window as the room behind it explodes, 80’s action movie style.
Building the sets was incredibly time consuming, which probably explains why this technique was only used on a few Popeye and Betty Boop shorts. The clip above is from POPEYE THE SAILOR MEETS SINBAD THE SAILOR (1936).
