I’ve seen theories about this. Like the fact that Donnie protected Mikey with his own body TWICE in the movie. Raph taking a hit for Leo, and then also getting infected by the Kraang. Feels very intentional.

The romance aspect is an interesting one especially if you look into cartomancy and the meanings of the cards used as a countdown in his lore drop sequence. Some of them kinda allude to a failed romance up to the point where he loses his soul 🤔

I LOVE watching Donnie for this reason. He doesn’t say what he’s feeling most of the time but he definitely shows it and it’s so interesting to pick up on it. Idk a lot of animated shows that have this much attention given to a character like this I love him so much.
