Look who I bumped into on the way to the
@bbcstrictly
tour!
@HamzaYassin3
was lovely and even pointed out where to spot a cormorant on the canal when I told him about my wildlife films!
Another hero met!!!
He gets a 10 from me!!
In less than two weeks I’ll be joining the
@RNNMarch
#RestoreNatureNow
match. Here’s my placard supporting the
@WildlifeTrusts
target of a Wilder Future!
I hope you’ll be able to join the march on the 22nd June in London 🪧
Pledge to join now…
Can't believe what I'm hearing. Swift bricks aren't even controversial. They're a cheap, easy way to restore our dwindling bird population. Yet neither Tory Minister, nor Lab opposition, will commit to make them mandatory. What planet are they on??
@Natures_Voice
@WriterHannahBT
Wow!! Yesterday was an amazing day!! I was able to visit the
@BBCSpringwatch
site as a guest of
@Lucy_Lapwing
. I absolutely loved it!
From meeting lots of amazing people…
(🧵 1/4)
I checked my
@wildlifebcn
solitary bee house made in a welly boot… and there are some sealed canes! I think that means it being used in its first year!
First outing for my Birthday Moth Trap! 🎁 🦋
4 species, despite being a bit cold and wet last night in our garden!
💚Poplar Hawk Moth
💚Privet Hawk Moth
💚The Uncertain
💚Common Footman
Very happy with that, especially with two Hawk Moths!!
* Advice please * this wall seems to be the best place to put up our Swift box. The box will be 4.9m high, and is NNE facing. The route to it is clear, from the North and East, but there is that roof to west. Will it be ok here?? Thank you 🐦
I’ve just finished the last session of the
@_BCT_
British Bats, Ecology and Conservation Course. I’ve loved it and can’t wait to use my bat detector in spring! My favourite fact this week was that positive language about bats is important to change people’s perception about them!
Thank you
@ChrisGPackham
for sharing
@WriterHannahBT
Swift Petition it’s gone up by about 2000 signatures!
Many people don’t realise that U18s can also sign these petitions giving us a voice too, you can use the same email address for two people too.
Boo… I’ve just tested positive for Covid and am not feeling very well at all… so for the next 10 days I’m going to focus on our garden wildlife. Trail cams going out, lots of extra bird feed put out and I’m set up by the window! My
#naturetastic
covid diary film coming soon!
In January I bumped into Hamza in Birmingham… and he was wearing an Ardnamurchan jumper… and yesterday I bought the same one at the lighthouse at the most westerly point of Britain!
Up at 4am to visit
@rspb
Snettisham for the Spectacular! Amazing as tens of thousands of Knot, Godwit, Dunlin and Oystercatcher are squeezed by the rising tide they take off into a ‘Whirling Wader Spectacle!’
Awesome!!
My Headmaster’s meeting was great. We are starting a monthly nature challenge and he is going to talk to the groundsman about leaving wild areas and birdboxes. I took my
@DominicCouzens
Save our Species book with me and we hope to put up Swift boxes too.
#CreatingAWilderFuture
Five days on from
#thefeatherspeech
debate on Swift bricks,
@WriterHannahBT
and I met up
@GlobalBirdfair
to talk about what happened and why it mattered! It’s a simple change to make and will help these Red-listed species and many more!
Volume up… no microphone 🍁!
Finished off the Sparrow Bird Boxes that I made at
@GlobalBirdfair
and a
@wildlifebcn
event to make a Sparrow Terrace on the side of my garden bird hide. Thanks
@SavetheHouseSp1
for running the event.
Today has been a
@IoloWilliams2
day… a wildlife walk at lunchtime at Nene Valley (including the cakes I made) and then ‘Life Before the Lens’ talk this evening
@wildlifebcn
A few days in hospital before Christmas (all fine now) limited my outdoor adventures… but today we went out to find the local Waxwings!
We found them, very grey and windy, and quite a way away so we didn’t disturb them, but we found them!!
Halfway through my British Bat Ecology 🦇 course with the
@_BCT_
, this week was all about echolocation.
My favourite fact is that scientists were able to decode what some Bats are actually saying with their social calls to each other!
Tomorrow is the launch of
@MeganMcCubbin
book ‘An Atlas of Endangered Species’, I was lucky to receive an early copy and here is my
#minibookreview
. I love it - and it blends science, real stories and the endangered animals into a really easy to read and interesting book 📕🐘
I’ve just registered for this 6 week course to learn all about British Bats 🦇
Bit nervous as it is for adults, but the
@_BCT_
said it should be fine apart from some of the physics which Dad can help me with.
#everydayisalearningday
The 'British Bats, Their Ecolgoy and Conservation' online course is still available to book!
With 6 interesting intro sessions on all things bats, (each of which you can book individually too!) it's a great opportunity to develop your knowledge
Book now:
This afternoon I met the White-tailed Sea Eagle legend -
@skyeandfrisa
The weather was 💦 but I had an amazing two hours just chatting with him in the truck learning about the history of the Mull WTE 🦅 and hearing his stories while looking across the loch to the original nest!
I’m filming the Moorhens on our pond again… it’s their second brood of the year with the first chicks just hatched.
I had to share this clip now though, look at them being fed a dragonfly larvae… birds are definitely related to dinosaurs! 🐥🦖
@BBCSpringwatch
@Natures_Voice
Moth trapping in the garden last night. 🌒
22 different species, and 62 moths in total.
The highlight was the Latticed Heath. Also lots of Underwing species, Wainscot and Setaceous Hebrew Characters.
All logged and recorded! 🦋 🖥️

@HenryStanier
@savebutterflies
Week 4 of the
@_BCT_
training course on British Bats… my favourite fact this week is that Bat poop 🦇💩 can be glittery because of the insect wings in it!!
✨💩✨
Best fact yet!!
Last night was amazing
@bbcproms
#EarthProm
… then this happened!!
Thank you
@MeganMcCubbin
for coming out to meet me and for your encouragement, it was brilliant to meet you!
Dream come true today! I’ve finally seen a snake 🐍 and it was in our garden. This grass snake was swimming across our pond! Only had a phone camera but still… Wow!
I was very proud to meet young conservationist and wildlife ambassador, Henry. He has been raising awareness for local nature reserves and global conservation projects, including the Tristan da Cunha Marine Protection Zone, one of the world’s most pristine marine environments.
It's time for THE FINAL! 😀

Last month I won the
@WeNaturalists
Green Childhood Storyteller of the Year Award for my films, and came third in the
@ActionForNature
Eco-Hero Awards.
Yesterday my trophy from
#wenaturalists
arrived… isn’t it cool! It’s carved from a sustainable wood source! (1/3)
This week we saw a pair of Thrushes in our garden for the first time ever, and despite today’s bad weather, they were back. They’ve come just as it was getting dark both times so struggling to get a good photo!

Just getting in to the car to head to the ferry… we haven’t seen WT Sea Eagles from our cottage all week… then this!!
Did you arrange it
@skyeandfrisa
🤣
What a great way to end our week on Mull!!
“There are always vacancies in my big hotel”
I’ve been in the garden giving my bug hotel a refresh… adding some new material in between the old bits and not disturbing anything in there. I’ve tried to get lots of different materials there!
