How common are 5.6 vaults in MAG? Not very.
This chart shows the distribution for 1 Worlds AA quals.
This is already a select group of men - not representative of general elite MAG.
Putting a PH specialist on a team for one event is a very risky strategy because most of these people fall A LOT.
If they bomb, those points are gone, as people who might have made up the gap have been left off the team.
Don't do it.
Whoa
Brandon Dang of Illinois (6.1/14.95)finished ahead of Steven Nedoroscik on PH (6.1/14.85).
Should be an interesting battle between Steve, Brandon, and Ignacio Yockers at Winter Cup.
Nullify an entire meet? Maybe give a 1 point neutral deduction and a warning that a second offense will result in nullification.
A penalty this harsh should be clearly specified in advance.
I far prefer head to head as a spectator, but that's not the point here.
Jossimar Calvo aiming for Olympics.
"The coming months will see Calvo and Barajas participate in four World Cups: Cairo (February 15-18), Cottbus (February 22-25), Baku (March 7-10) and Doha (April 17-20)"
I made cheat sheets for where to look when Day 1 of MAG = Blue are probably World Team contenders, yellow is other stuff that could be important/I want to see. Makes meets easier to watch - make you own!
420.350 was higher than any score Oklahoma got all of last year (411.8500 was their last years score at RMO), and that's with the 1 point injury neutral deduction.

Historic day for GymACT - Texas Armadillo Dallas Hale sitting in top 10 in the National Team Point system. He trains at Cypress, but competes for GymACT.
How is the US men's program committee going to figure out a D score bonus before they understand how the new code of points works in practice? This seems impossible to do correctly.
The battle for the men's NCAA AA Champion is going to be epic.
Fuzzy Benas, Asher Hong, Colt Walker, Paul Juda, Khoi Young, Josh Karnes, Taylor Christopolus, Fred Richard..

Correct. Hamm is the winner in the record books.
Grandi was also wrong in asking Hamm to give his medal to Young. The athletes can't redistribute the medals. Only the IOC can.
More fun with Excel - I took the top 10 + a couple specialists who could make Worlds, removed the bonus, and highlighted the top 3 scores on each event night 1. Lots of race left to run, but gives an idea where people have to hit to get to Antwerp.
Top scores for the people competing at the upcoming USA Gymnastics Championships MAG division.
Asher Hong and Fred Richard are likely going - who else?
We have a new antitrust lawsuit against the NCAA...
This one, filed by lead plaintiff and UNC tennis player Reese Brantmeier (on behalf of a proposed wider class), challenges the NCAA's prohibition on college athletes playing in outside competitions with prize money.
Josh Karnes of Penn State has two events with D scores which would allow him to petition to the US team as an Individual Event Specialist (he probably can qualify in AA), but just in case -
PB - D = 6.1
HB - D = 5.5
Rounding out the list of NCAA guys who competed D scores which would have ranked in the top 8 qualifiers at 2023 Worlds
Javier Alfonso - Michigan - 6.0 SR
Crew Bold - Michigan - 5.6 HB
Illinois 413.8 is the third highest total team score so far this season. Let's see what Oklahoma and Stanford will answer back (Stanford will likely rest Young, Hong, and Walker).
Rings and Pommel horse aren't going anywhere.
A lot of small federations have specialists that win medals in these events, and the last thing the FIG wants to do is upset a bunch of small federations.

Judging by their record, not many songs bother the Oklahoma men.
Maybe there is something extra special about Baby Shark.
Michigan making its move with a total D score for today of
158.7
Still back from Stanford's 165 from last week, but Michigan may increase that some. They were only 1.3 off of Stanfords 413.8 with several large errors.
Oklahoma will compete tonight.

It should make people think twice about that strategy no matter the gymnast. These PH people have a habit of coming off the horse. Even really good ones.
