It’s weird how I relate to this because I had told my ex-therapist (who is an Indian, but pursued their course abroad) that I am unable to save even a bit because of the responsibilities of sibling’s education, stay, expenses, etc and they’d said the exact same thing to me.

When non-lawyers ask me if I'm done for the day at 6.30 pm, when I've just returned from the court, I find it hard to explain to them how my day, in a way, has just begun - only after returning from court can I meet clients, draft and prepare for hearings listed the next day.

A commercial court district judge said my written statement was very beautifully drafted, and included statement of truth, affidavit of admission/denial etc, and she was seeing such a ‘sundar’, formatted pleading in her court for the first time. I’m on cloud 9.

Do you know that feeling when a well-read judge flaunts his knowledge and cites judgments to say you don’t have a case at all, and then, you pull out your best card & handover a recent judgment which changes the whole picture & the judge goes silent? It’s the best feeling.

Gurgaon folks are so cool - this lawyer apparently quit practice here in Delhi and started practising in Gurgaon because his ex-boss in Delhi asked him to work till 8 pm on a day when it was raining, when all he wanted to do was go out and have some chilled beer at 2 pm.

Law 101: Have two different matters listed tomorrow before two different courts - in one court, I’m arguing that the consent of the complainant is not required for compounding an offence under s 138 NI Act, and in the other, I’m arguing that complainant’s consent is mandatory. 😂

Although my after-notice SLP was dismissed, Justice Karol asked my name, and said I did argued well. Even the senior counsel for the opposite party said the same to me, but I don’t know if I should be happy or sad. My client certainly would be sad, and wouldn’t know this bit. :/

Met this friend who has started law practice at the same time as me, and while we were talking about the old times, we laughed over the kind of days we have seen. We have come a long way from skipping meals due to financial restraints to skipping meals due to time restraints.

District court practice requires much more effort and presence of mind than HC & SC practice, but it's also a fact you cannot deny that it pays you much less in comparison to the practice at HC & SC. :/

One thing I hate about litigation as a profession is that it consumes all your time, leaving very little time for your personal growth in terms of family, friends and dating/relationships. People say it gets better eventually, but god knows when.

i think if i get too tired of litigation (as in where it’s affecting my health or i don’t have time at all for my personal life), i will either become a lecturer or a legal reporter instead of joining as an in-house counsel somewhere.

My ex was unsuccessful for two consecutive years, and I didn’t understand why they’d still want to give another year to it, especially when both of us had a lot of responsibilities. They didn’t give up, and became a judge the third time. In the retrospect, it made a lot of sense.
Some of you guys are so far from reality. No one wants to waste their 2-3 years in preparing for these exams. Unfortunately, for most of middle/lower class these competitive exams are their one shot way to a much better quality of life. That's all

I used to work till 4 am and then wake up at 6 am and go to work (not glorifying toxic work culture, but I didn't have much of a choice), but for the past few days, by 10.30 pm, I am exhausted, and feel super sick to the extent of not being able to even sit, let alone work.

the only way to read amidst a hectic schedule is to carry a book/kindle at all times with you and read whenever you're taking a break. while waiting for your order, while smoking, while you're taking a small break from work when exhausted and stressed.

For all those who think you can’t participate in moots, etc because you are facing language barriers or other difficulties, participate irrespective of the barriers. It’s okay to make a complete fool out of yourself, because in the long run, you will have gained confidence.

To all the young people into litigation, just a piece of advice - no work is more important than your health, so please don’t compromise your health for anything, come what may. Have come to learn this the hard way, but I hope you learn this before it’s as late as it is for me.

Don’t mess with a lawyer who is terribly sick - a client asked me for a discount after the hearing (although they’d agreed to the fee I had quoted before the hearing) and I literally asked them to collect all their briefs and engage some other lawyer.

Despite regularly appearing before the Supreme Court, High Court of Delhi, the district courts and tribunals of Delhi, today, I am super nervous while entering this district court in hometown, which is a first. Jittery, like a first year associate right out of law school.
Would be stepping into the district court at my hometown for the first time after my enrolment - the last time I stepped inside this court was when I was interning here.

I will never understand the obsession of district courts with precedents. Judgments can also be passed on the basis of law, based on its interpretation, even if the Supreme Court or any High Court has not had a chance to deal with the issue involved.
