It’s stupid because courts have found non-competes almost always unenforceable to begin with. You have to get something in return for a contract to be valid, and “well gee we hired you” doesn’t really count.

He did make a small mistake by staying completely silent. You should articulate to law enforcement that you will be exercising your right to remain silent, THEN remain silent. This is because recent court ruling have found that simply being silent isn't enough.
