I lost on
@jeopardy
on May 8, 2023. Two competitions and seven games later, I’m headed to the Tournament of Champions. It’s an unlikely story and I’m still waiting to wake up from this dream. Thank you for all of your love and support on this journey ❤️❤️❤️
I am so proud of my brother
@omarzaheerdvm
for his incredible run on
#survivor42
. I knew he would make strong bonds, but the extraordinary gameplay and loveable villain tendencies were a surprise! Thank you for being the best brother and coolest uncle on the planet 🧡💜🐦🦉
It’s midnight for Cinderella, but every moment of this experience has been the most unexpected gift of my life. So grateful to everyone on the Jeopardy! team (especially John Barra!) who saw something in me I couldn’t even see in myself.
Excited to be the second Zaheer sibling to appear on a TV competition show - tune in on May 8th to see if I can maintain our family’s reputation ;)
#jeopardy
When I was a kid my family watched jeopardy! every night. My dad taught me world capitals and flags “just in case” I went on someday - “maybe you can win us money!” But then life happens - School and work and commuting and two wonderful kids. You get busy and stop watching.
Join Ken and me for the
@Jeopardy
! Tournament of Champions! The quarterfinals kick off on Friday, February 23rd, and my game will air on Thursday, February 29th - click on to see where to tune in.
That’s a wrap on the
@Jeopardy
tournament of champions! A HUGE congrats to my brilliant friend Yogesh Raut, whose love of knowledge and connection inspires me every day,
@JeopardyBenBen
- the Final Jeopardy king, and the astonishing Troy Meyer - the man, the myth, the legend.
Who’s ready?! So excited to share the stage with three of my favourite people -
@ouij
,
@whiskeygingdrag
, and
@KenJennings
. See who prevails tonight in the
@Jeopardy
tournament of champions quarterfinal (spoiler alert - it’s Ken)
The
#Jeopardy
fan community can be absolutely extraordinary. Thank you SO much - it reminds me that all we owe is being the best versions of ourselves, and people will always surprise and delight us with their kindness ❤️❤️❤️
Any normal human wouldn’t dedicate half an hour to writing down their thoughts about the phrase “let you down” after a game of
#jeopardy
…
Unfortunately for Juveria, I am not normal :)

@Jeopardy
Champions Wildcard Final Part 2 airs tomorrow night! Tune in to see Michael, Andy and me finish off this two game total point affair to see who will be going to the Tournament of Champions! 1/3
Come watch me and Ken and 26 other wonderful players in the
@Jeopardy
Champions Wildcard Competition - my quarterfinal game airs on Wednesday Jan 17th!
So thrilled to share that our proposal “Experiences of suicide-related thoughts and behaviours during the COVID-19 pandemic: a pan-Canadian qualitative study” has been funded by
@CIHR_IRSC
. The impact of the pandemic on those struggling with suicidality is poorly understood 1/3
The first game of the
@Jeopardy
#SecondChance
finals is in the books! It was one of those games were everything felt so great - Iris and Jason are so smart and good on the buzzer so you can’t count them out. The final game is on Monday (Christmas!) so tune in for festive fun 1/3
Talking about the
@Jeopardy
! Tournament of Champions on
@CP24Breakfast

I took the test on January 25, 2022 while making dinner - It took 15 minutes and led to the adventure of a lifetime! Take the test today and see where your own

What a wonderful experience to work the very first overnight shift at the
@CAMHnews
Sheff & Kachan Emergency Department. Our team is so thrilled to provide care for people in crisis in a welcoming, dignified and safe space.
Thank you to my family, especially Mike and our girls, friends, CAMH, Canada, and nice people on the internet who reached out and watched and send so much love and kindness. I am so sorry to have let you down - I did the best I could and I am so so grateful for your support.
For me? Back to the real world - I have a lot of emails to respond to and meetings to reschedule. Although my buzzer had turned into a pumpkin, I wouldn’t trade any of it. Anything worth trying is also worth failing at - and all we can do is be brave and take chances do our best.
Safe housing is suicide prevention.
Freedom from trauma and oppression is suicide prevention.
Improving access to care is suicide prevention.
Listening to patients, families, and communities, and co-creating interventions that work is suicide prevention.
Such an honour to be included - grateful to the mentors and colleagues (and family!) without whom this would be impossible
@camhnews
and
@UofTPsych
, and especially excited to be on this list along side my brilliant
@QueensUGME
2007 classmate
@DrNirLipsman
Can’t believe the hilarious
@MrEmilyHeller
and
@cullenthecomic
are talking about a bunch of weird nerds on
@jeopardy
- but it made my whole day, as I did just yell at my husband “JOHN FROM BLOCKED PARTY AND EMILY FROM BABY GENIUSES KNOW WHO I AM!”
8F: “What are you working on mom?”
Me: “A grant!”
8F: “What’s that again?”
Me: “It’s when you ask people for money so you can do your research”
8F, brightly, “Sounds like a scam!”
Me:
In summer 2002, I would study for the MCAT during my 45 minute lunch break in a mall food court. I turned down an unpaid summer research position to be the assistant manager of a clothing store. I didn’t know if I would have the $ to register for the test, let alone a prep course
So honoured to be giving the keynote
@UofTPsych
#Mindfest
on Wed. I'll be talking about social factors related to suicide and how to support people in crisis. I will also be including this picture of myself from 2001 as a
@UofT
student living
@NewCollegeUofT
- key context.
Thanks so much to
@rachelmendleson
for her nuanced and careful reporting on suicide and COVID-19. We know that risks for suicide include economic hardship and social isolation. We need to invest in access to mental health care 1/3
Such an honour to share a stage with two incredible people and even better friends. Kevin was such a support through this process and is my family now. Luigi was the first person in the Jeopardy community who said, you’re really good - be brave and trust yourself.
Sharing stories of suffering and recovery can turn on the lights for people who feel they are alone in the darkness, but it’s only the first step. Access to care, safe housing, and freedom from discrimination are essential for a healthy society.
#BellLetsTalk
If we want to train doctors that represent all Canadians, we need to think carefully about how requirements like the MCAT perpetuate inequality in medicine. I maintain though that all that time in the mall was better prep for my current job than clerkship ;)
So proud to work in the
@CAMHnews
Emergency Department. An incredible allied health team, dedicated physicians, amazing admin and housekeeping staff, and wonderful
@UofTPsych
residents providing much needed urgent mental health care during a such a difficult time.
The end of an era and the beginning of the next! Goodbye from me to the
@CAMHnews
College Street ED after 14 years together - excited for our next chapter at Queen Street!
Thanks so much to
@metromorning
for having me on their Next Ten series to discuss the future of suicide prevention - it’s our responsibility to create a world where everyone feels life is worth living and has access to timely, evidence-based mental health care.
Lucky to work in clinical and research spaces with extraordinary, supportive Muslim and non-Muslim colleagues. Muslims in medicine are a diaspora, holding a variety of beliefs and positions, and deserve to be treated with respect and dignity by the publications that represent us.
Could not be prouder of
@june_sh_lam
’s system-transforming work on improving mental health care for transgender and non-binary people - and what a gift for us both to work with my own mentor
@KurdyakP
on very cool mixed methods work!
Thank you to the incredible competitors across three tournaments and in the J! community - nerd winter camp was the best thing ever. And to all of the friends I’ve made along the way - I can’t thank you enough.
And then eveything kind of clicked into focus. Delighted to get a question on Fiji right with
@omarzaheerdvm
and
@lydiameredith
in the crowd. Final jeopardy was of a bummer. I knew the best wager was 8500 ish or under but I couldn’t live with myself if I got it right and lost

Grateful to
@OliviaBowden__
and the
@TorontoStar
for covering our new paper in
@CMAJ_Open
today. Students in mental health crisis are deserving of hope and help, and that includes flexible, dignified, and humane transfer policies. (1/6)
I can’t believe
@RedmondSurvivor
wrote about me instead of
@omarzaheerdvm
😂
Thank you for all of the kind words about yesterday’s game. Sam and Jake were incredible and any of us could have won.
Catch game one of the two-game total point final on Friday!
@ShannonGaitz
Would like to report that all of his impressions sound a) exactly the same; and b) exactly like his impression of our dad minus the Indian accent
But then your little bro goes on
@survivorCBS
at 8 and jeopardy! is on tv at 730 - so you do the anytime test for fun, and the rest is history. I didn’t think I would have stage fright, but I could hear my heart in my ears. I kept thinking “everyone at work will think I’m dumb”.
Can’t believe it’s been a whole year since the
@CAMHnews
Emergency Department moved into our new space at 1051 Queen Street West. We are grateful to provide crisis care to people who need it across Toronto.
This great article highlights that about 60% of medical students come from homes with a family income of 100,000 or greater, 8x (!) more that would be expected.
Addressing diversity and inclusion in class make-up is important, but there’s more. /1
Agree wholeheartedly. 15-20% of
@CAMHnews
emergency department patients are experiencing homelessness; and many of our patients face barriers to obtaining life-saving vaccines. J&J in the psych ED setting would be a game changer.
A supply of Johnson&Johnson vaccine would be particularly important - perhaps even available in our emergency room, offering a potentially life-saving jab to a person with mental illness who may otherwise not have easy access.
@juveriazaheer
It felt like a nightmare where your fingers are too clumsy to send a text message. But Corina the amazing contestant coordinator kept reminding us not to give up and not to panic. I remembered my fearless, intrepid daughters and wanted to be brave for them.
Dr. Mary Seeman was an inspiration to me and so many other psychiatrists. She was a brilliant, accomplished and extraordinarily generous person. Dr. Seeman was the examiner for my MSc thesis - I still can’t believe I had that honour and privilege.
Nothing says happy holidays like a cameo from the hysterically funny
@BrandonDonlon
, the best gift ever from
@KevinTedJacobs
. Gonna take you up on that trivia offer when you’re in town; we’ll hit up the Winners beforehand.
Really excited to share this paper - “I thought that I had to be alive to repay my parents”: Filial piety as a risk and protective factor for suicidal behavior in a qualitative study of Chinese women (1/5)

reminds us that access to mental health tools and resources can in itself be a form of privilege, and not always accessible to the marginalized groups who might need it the most:

What an honour to be on this
@besthealthmag
list with amazing women in health care, including the extraordinary
@UofTPsych
PGY-1
@chikastacypoet
who is on service with me right now! - Chika, you are an incredible young woman and the best is yet to come.
Wanted to end with a special shout out to my little bro - I would never have done this without you blazing the trail. You taught me to give it eveything I had without worrying about winning or embarrassing myself. Lucky to be your sister.
In the
@CAMHnews
ED, people often apologize for coming in - “I don’t want to waste anyone’s time”; “I didn’t know if I should come”. It’s never wrong or a waste of time to ask for help; and we’re so grateful when you do.
Very exciting for me as a Newfoundlander to hear Ken Jennings bring up our extra special time zone in yesterday’s game - it takes a unique people to rock being 30 minutes off cycle from most of the world!
