Of the many harms of "sex work" liberal ideology, undermining women on death row's claims of self-defense against violent men is one of them, because girls "chose to become prostitutes." Women are being sent to their state-sponsored deaths thanks to this ideological helping hand

I was told of a stalking/femicide where the man placed a dozen yellow roses on the woman's porch. She phoned the police b/c he told her that when he did that, he would kill her. They dismissed her since 12 yellow roses "was a sweet, innocent gift." He killed her the next day.

The declaration that "men aren't the issue, patriarchy is" fundamentally obscures a primary source of women's oppression: men's intimate sexual & physical violations of women and that the purpose of this obfuscation is to make male violence against women appear natural.

The naturalization of women's oppression starts with not seeing gender as a hierarchy. The reason we're in this mess--that men as men can violate & use women as women with impunity--is because gender is conceptualize by law & society as a "difference".

No, misogyny is a material & social reality, not a state of mind. When women are tortured by men in their homes, it is not seen as a violation of human rights. It is therefore assumed that women aren't human. This is what the hatred of women looks like in law in a patriarchy.

"What law school does for you is this: it tells you that to become a lawyer means to forget your feelings, forget your community, most of all, if you are a woman, forget your experience...Women lawyers as a group have not been much of an exception to this, except that they...

@LilacMedusa @Aw12bs This mother had the right to defend herself against her 15-year-old son who raped her. OP said sons *who raise their hands on their mothers*, i.e., who are violent. You deliberately made it seem like she meant a non-violent son.

Excerpts from Francis Biddle's Sister: Pornography, Civil Rights, and Speech (MacKinnon, Feminism Unmodified). "Women will never have that dignity, security, compensation that is the promise of equality so long as the pornography exists as it does now."

How many times do we need to have this conversation? Female sexuality in pornography is women deriving sexual pleasure from pain & abuse by men. People *believe* it, rather than the *women* when they try to tell us what had been done to them. A :) is all it takes.

"Why is just existing alive not enough? Why do you have to hurt?" The political stance that women need to be raped or dying to earn their right to abortion legally is based on the notion that when women suffer, we are seen as "damaged goods" rather than humans harmed.

Watching the video of that woman testifying that she had to wait until she hit sepsis to terminate her high risk pregnancy radicalized me because in any other context when you do that it’s negligence and malpractice

Men who rape & sexually assault women in the sex trade take away women’s agency, not feminists who expose this dynamic and try to end it

@prendefem Kind of wild (but unsurprising nonetheless) that the only way this man believed he could meaningfully disagree with "pro-life" women was to assault them physically. Hope he knows that he is no ally

MacKinnon observes that human rights r violated when men are tortured, for e.g. in prison cells in Chile, including being electrocuted and brutally beaten. However, when men do these *same* acts to women in their homes, human rights r not violated. Consider this woman's account:

Despite proponents of the sex trade saying that prostituted women hold all the power, this statistic demonstrates how much male sexual pleasure, which frequently takes the form of rape and battering, controls women in the sex trade.

This is particularly sinister given that these women with guns as they are depicted have been raped & marginalized by their male comrades. Also, under this sameness standard, women's equality is judged by our proximity to man's measure. This is reactionary. Gender is a hierarchy.

"The 'choice' between the chance of death from HIV/AIDS and the ability to feed and school her children does not offer sufficient realistic alternatives to equality as an exercise in 'agency'."
