Perhaps it’s the remnants of puritanical ideologies that believe a woman’s body is shameful. That’s it’s something that needs to be covered up and protected. That women need to stay pure and “virginal”.

Why is it alienating? I grew up on characters like He-Man, reading comics with men that have rippling muscles like wolverine and playing games like Tekken that have shirtless sinewy men. Hell even the Doom marine has his ripped abs on display.
Never once did I feel alienated.
