@QLDCountryGP @Mark_Butler_MP @ABCaustralia I feel early retirement coming on. I’ve already reduced my hours due to the endless changes and ridiculous Medicare rules. I’m rapidly losing my taste for it all. Which is a shame because I love being a GP. It’s just getting too hard to keep up with the bureaucracy and admin.

@Katlab_UCL I had similar on a flight. Flight attendant checking head count. Got to my row & looked confused. Apparently ‘Dr’ automatically registered as a male passenger. Yet here was a female sitting in that seat. Unbelievable.

The freeze on patient Medicare rebates has resulted in millions of Australians forced to contribute $$ towards the cost of their GP healthcare. Bulk billing is on it’s way to extinction due to serial underfunding of patient rebates by successive governments @Mark_Butler_MP

Our analysis shows that the freeze on Medicare rebates by previous governments resulted in $3.8 billion being stripped from the primary care system. Read our analysis here:

The future is here. For many years GPs have been warning that General Practice would crumble unless significant investment was made. Those pleas fell on deaf ears. ‘Strengthening Medicare’ is too little, too late @RACGPPresident @Mark_Butler_MP

A GP clinic shutting means that 4300 people, who live in (low SES) East Devonport, are without a local GP. Most GPs aren't taking new patients and most don't bulk bill. This country is failing poorer families. Many will now not have a GP, and will go to ED. #primarycare

It’s outrageous. Solidarity to my UK colleagues. We need to make sure this sort of thing doesn’t happen in Australia too …

"This isn’t an office job. They’re not photocopying the wrong document - they’re killing people." Utterly staggering goings-on in the UK. 🤯 I struggle to understand why patients aren't up in arms about this. What are they being told? @TheBMA #NHSCrisis

@ian_hickie @crikey_news ‘Blah blah blah I’m an academic in a very narrow field, with no experience whatsoever of the reality of General Practice, but I definitely have all the answers’. Your poor GP (or do you self diagnose using an app?). So tired of this rhetoric.

@sonialf @imaanjoshi @VickiSchofield5 @LennaLeprena GPs don’t actually get wages. We are sole traders. We charge fees for our services. We then pay a service fee to the clinic (usually around 35% of our billings). GPs do not get holiday pay, sick pay or super. Medicare rebates patients.

The ethics of certain media outlets need to be scrutinised. GP morale was indeed severely impacted by slanderous claims. We don’t deserve this kind of disregard & disrespect @RACGPPresident @abc730 @adele_ferguson @smh

I urge certain Nine papers and 7.30 journalists to reflect on what last year's "rort" story did to GP morale. We battled through a pandemic and troubled vaccine rollout. We did all we could to help patients during a desperate time, only then to be slandered without warning. #GP

Excellent & insightful article about inevitability of growth of Telehealth platforms like Eucalyptus in Australia. They disguise themselves as improving access to care but are really about maximising profit @Medicalrepublic @RACGPPresident @nick_coatsworth

@AnnastaciaMP These clinics are being subsidised by government on top of Medicare rebates, tacit acknowledgment that bulk billing is not a viable business option. Why not funnel those $$ into patient Medicare rebates?

What a waste of taxpayer’s money. $194 per visit, almost 5 x the amount than for a patient to see their GP. False economy. Better to funnel those $ into General Practice, the most efficient part of our health system @RACGPPresident @Mark_Butler_MP

The essence of the problem with the PA Experiment: training in the ‘medical model’ confuses patients, local supervision to determine ‘scope’ risks PA’s working beyond their training. @RACGPPresident @amapresident @qldhealth @Mark_Butler_MP
