Why do I mask?
I’m 48 hours into my 64 hour on call weekend in O&G. I’ve examined 3 people with confirmed Covid infections, 2 of them pregnant.
PPE has prevented me from contracting or passing it on to my family. Thankful for masks😷 🙏🏻

I think I still have PTSD recalling that night 😖 I called the help 4x, then the tertiary centre for more advice. Long night but thankfully ended with good outcome for mum + bub. I fed back to the head of dept, who said I needed training and blacklisted me.

We delivered babies, we cried over lost ones, we hoped for conceptions that weren’t happening, & saved a life from catastrophic bleeding.
That was 3 days in O&G, now I’m back to GP to do the vital work that supports hospitals

One minute there was no pulse & her hand was blue, we sedated her, reduced her nasty fracture dislocation, and her arm was SAVED.

Med students to this day carry the “just a GP” “call a metro hospital Specialist” misconception.

Seems we still have some work to do in recognising what GP Specialists can diagnose & manage.
My patients would benefit from me certifying this form after I diagnosed their T1 Diabetes, or their Spine MRI for suspected Multiple Sclerosis.

I still love the double take I get from students, colleagues & patients they find out I work in Emergency and Obstetrics on the weekend.
Nothing quite like having skills across different disciplines to meet the needs of a community. I am so grateful for the variety in my job.

There were 190 applicants for 100 places in Rural Generalist training.
I am incredibly proud to be amongst this group, but it makes complete sense for us to increase the number of training places to make Rural Generalists more accessible.
