Financial services are all about risk management.
First, you leverage several data points (AML checks, KYC DD, PEP and Sanctions screening...) to determine the risk of dealing with a client and you apply the appropriate actions - a normal DD, enhanced DD, or outright refusal.
I want to be the kind of Christian that is not only spiritual/religious towards God but to people.
I want to display the fruits of the spirit. I want to be a genuinely good person, to be forgiving, respectful and act according to the Bible -- not only when its convenient.
🥺err, I no say na rant bhet…maybe this is a good chance to talk a bit more about what NIBSS is and what it does.
And tell you, infact, that there are people building something similar — in a few aspects.
So, first, what does NIBSS do?
Fintech today, Fintech tomorrow and nobody has been able to build an infrastructure system to rival NIBSS and provide redundancy??
All of you wanna build savings, investment and diaspora remittance apps only??
Fintech app sweet to build, regulatory licence hard to collect
But once you collect that licence, your operations will model that of the old guard you'd originally set out to disrupt.
My thoughts are with everyone building a tech-first solution in a highly-regulated industry💕
I have so much respect for the Founder of Interswitch.
- Man wasn't in banking or payments before founding the company. He was an Engineer by training.
- Broke-even in one year, as opposed to the four years he had anticipated in his business plan
- This is despite receiving
As many of you already know I started my tech startup journey as an intern @ Andela in 2015.
Seven years in, and I've refused to specialise. What's the future for someone like me who has caught the startup bug but is a generalist.

Just spoke to someone from Vice about the impact of SARS on dampening our burgeoning IT sector.
If you've been arrested by SARS, taken into custody and had to pay to buy your freedom. DM me, let's tell the world this story.

So, if anyone makes the purchase, you can get guidance from those who have already set it up:
Not sure I've publicly commented on the mess that is living in Lagos, at the moment.
Everyone is feeling the crunch.
Terrible power supply (even in estates with premium arrangements).
Now, for the alternative source, gen., fuel is extremely scarce. Queues from 3AM?!

Tiny win 🥳:
I used to be fascinated and inspired by the fact that people’s older siblings could make life easier for them. Especially cause I knew someone in my class whose brother paid his school fees.
Today, my brother escaped rain by taking my car to the office 🥺
Check on Macaroni, Rinu, FK, Mosope, and everyone that's be loud about this.
The slightest "no communication" could mean that they are in danger.
Enough is enough!

Within like 3 years, Tobey went from tech blogger to Android Dev in Eyowo, to Paystack and now Trivago (japa’d).
He is the next person I’m speaking to!
Let’s go 🚀
After much thought, I've concluded that I do not have a career path.
I am what I am.
Navigating this mid-level phase of my career is incredibly tough. But I think a few more years down the line it will all make sense.
It's why I'm reading the book RANGE.
*taps mic*
UPDATE: This week is my last at Softcom, as an FTE.
It's been an exhilarating ride and I came out of my Medium Hiatus to tell you all about it.
Thanks to everyone that has been a part of my journey.
Looking forward to what's next 🚀
We've come a long way from the Stutern Internship Fair (2016) to attending the first Google Nigeria event (2017).
Grateful for growth and how far we've come.
Let's go 🔥🚀

Before I announce what my next move is, I just want to repeat again that people like E were one of the earliest people to show me that you can be young in age, but not necessarily in experience. Thus, worth whatever position you are being asked to fill.
My biggest win in Q1 2020 is buying a laptop for my mum 😩
No one knew Corona was going to make them need it so badly.
She could have been stranded or stuck with a lower-performing laptop
You go mum!
Whenever people say "Brag about yourself, " I become shy.
Yet, I know how that visibility is important to attract suitable opportunities for work and collaboration.
I wish I could just build in the background, and someone else will do the marketing/publicity
The thing about having money is that it becomes your burden to "satisfy people" by spending (helping out here and there), while ensuring your money doesn't finish (saving & investing), so that you don't become "olowo ana"
There is a startup sales lesson in this paragraph of Chowdeck's story:
"In its initial months, Chowdeck worked on listing small-sized food businesses and helped to bring a few roadside vendors online. Now, however, it targets the bigger restaurant chains, which make up the bulk
There is a lot of bad behaviour in the startup ecosystem.
You are not a fool for doing things right by your stakeholders and community.
Your long game will pay off 🙏🏾
The second major Acquisition of a Nigerian company, in my lifetime.
MainOne, 13-year-old, hardware-heavy business acquired for $325m
Paystack was a ~5 year old business acquired for $200m
Congrats to everyone building
🙇🏽♂️ Today was another of those humbling moments for me.
I met Belinda.
When Belinda saw my name tag, she screamed.
“You are real! I read your site and we’ve referenced it severally on our project. So good to meet you”
Me: 🥹
Thank you for the warmth, Belinda ❤️
I hope that the outcome of all the tech ecosystem brouhaha is that: More entrepreneurs consider building SMEs.
The ZIRP boon of 2020-2022 made many people hyperfocus on building tech startups when they could have built profitable tech-enabled service-based businesses.
🚨 If you are a(/n) (aspiring) developer who would like access to either or all of the following:
- Mentorship
- Laptop
- Workspace
- Curated learning resources
Then, this tweet thread is for you. Otherwise, tell your friends that might need this.

IDK IDK, but I just want to give a special S/O to the Softcom Operations team and everyone on the Retreat Committee.
Year-on-Year, y'all pull a madness by taking north of 100 people to a whole another country!
How long till we open Travel Agency 🤷🏾♂️

My young friends,
I know that it's enticing to be called CMO and CPO with just one to two years of experience in your career.
I'd say, optimise for functional job titles (Marketer, Designer, Product Manager) at the beginning of your career and let it grow (Snr Marketer, CMO).
So many stories I want to share 🥺
By the time I was done with Uni, I had interned at: KPMG, Softcom, and Andela.
So, I'd always go back to my alma mater to encourage the undergrads...🥺
But that's not the fun part, my Salary as a grad was lesser than when I was an undergrad
I need more money for the kind of life I want to give this woman.
The kind of “before you ask, your needs are met.”
“Take, just for existing”
It will happen 🤲🏾🤲🏾
Sometimes, no be content team go tell designer what to do.
Designer gan, na part of content team and he/she can come up with such ideas.
If you are designer built like this; can initiate and can execute well (so, experienced/master of your craft), please I want to stalk you.
My toxic trait is that I wake up, middle of the night with a lot of things to do, but instead I just think about my life (and those things for hours)
Then, I try to quickly sleep back so I can be fresh for the next day of work
🔊 Hello everyone!

In June 2022, we invested 1M naira ($1,310.61) into a mutual fund managed by Cowrywise's Sprout.
As of today February 2024, our ~20% interest has been completely wiped out. And our cumulative money is worth $751.71
