Unpopular opinion: You don’t need to be playing tackle football until 7th grade. Focus on the fundamental basics. Throwing, catching, running, etc. I learned it all at recess, the church yard, my living room, and most importantly watching football on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays

6 years ago, I applied for a job & asked to be a volunteer football coach. Never got an interview. 1 year later, accepted a head coaching job. We are 5-0 in the last 5 years vs that school. Best thing that ever happened to me.

We, as football coaches, spend about 8 months to prep & plan for the 1st day of practice in the fall. We are 1 month away from fall camps & we still haven’t heard a peep to help us plan & prep for what the fall may look like. All I want is a heads up & not a week before we start.

As the S&C coach, the best stat from last night girls basketball win was the fact that 10/12 girls who played were at 6:30 AM weights squatting, benching, and going through agilities. This includes the top 3 scorers. “lifting on gamedays isn’t a good idea”. “It affects your shot”

Hard to put into words how proud I am of this team. This Senior class was 4-23 coming into this season. First team to have a winning record in ACGC history, missed the playoffs by 1 spot, had 5 playoff teams on the schedule & beat 2 of them.

Stat of the day
When I took this job last May, we had 2 athletes run a sub 5.0 sec 40 yard dash. For the athletes that tested today, we had 15 sub 5.0 40 yard dash times. The work and process is starting to love these kids back. Testament to their hard work and dedication!!

Just drove by a indoor sports complex & could see 10-11 year old kids working on drills. Did I mention it’s 9:30 at night. Why aren’t these kids at home getting a good nights rest? No wonder kids get burnt out and there are athletes walking the hall of our local high schools.

11 years ago ago today, I was a 16 year old kid competing in a bench press competition in Guthrie Center, Iowa. 11 years later, I am standing in the same gym watching our athletes compete on a daily basis. Crazy how things come around full circle.

I am continuously impressed by our kids at ACGC. Another record breaking day in the weight room. We had 95 boys and girls come through this morning and afternoon. 95!!! What impresses me the most is how they leave it when the day is done. Not a weight out of place.

Going through attendance from the last 6 weeks & I’m so dang proud of our kids commitment, work ethic and leadership. Schools I have been a part of used winter and sports schedules as reason for poor numbers. Not us! 120 kids a week. 93 daily average. Enrollment 9-12 240. 🤯🤯🤯
