Last note from me before I shift into vacation mode:
I found a way to write a hockey story. In Northeast Mississippi. More than just a few words on the Tupelo T-Rex, gone but not forgotten
Noticed that the
#Gators
tend to defer to the second half, score right before half and score again to begin the second half. So, I ran the numbers on the "middle eight", and sure enough...
I'm seeing Wayne Gretzky trending, and it just reminds me how much easier it is to be a hockey fan when it comes to GOAT conversations. Everyone says Gretzky, nods their heads in agreement and moves on.
In case anyone was wondering what "spring" high-school sports look like in a ski town in a historic snow season, well, I think the photos speak for themselves.

There's a lot of uncertainty about sports right now, but I do know one thing:
I'll be the sports editor of
@alligatorSports
for the summer! Excited about this opportunity.
After ~2 years, today was my last day at The Park Record. I have another opportunity in the pipeline, which I'll talk about soon.
But my time in Park City has been the adventure of a lifetime. I couldn't have asked for more from my first job covering sports full time.
I'm honored to announce that, among many awards that The Park Record took home, I finished 2nd in Group 2 of the Utah Press Association's awards for Best Sports Story and Best Sports Page.
Not a bad Year 1.
Tired: Giving money on UF Giving Day to a university that I already gave thousands of dollars to for four years.
Wired: Giving back to
@alligatorSports
, the student newspaper that gave me so much for three years.
Today was my last day
@OcalaGazette
. Thankful for the opportunity, and it was great working alongside
@AinsliesTwoBits
and other talented people. Here's to the next adventure that lies ahead.
Help us welcome the newest member of the
@DJournalnow
team — Brendan Farrell.
Brendan is a native of Jacksonville, Florida, and a '20 graduate of the University of Florida.
He'll be covering local preps and college sports, so give him a follow
@Bfarrell727
.
Today, I'm handing
@alligatorSports
to
@riverhwells
, the sports editor for the fall. It's been a great summer, and I'm proud of what we did this summer considering the circumstances. I'll still be here covering football, though.
I think a lot of the time the phrase "student-journalist" is used to diminish the work that student-journos do when in reality they're just working as journalists who happen to be taking classes at the same time.
Where’s the outrage mob now that
@petitus25
’s report is confirmed by others? The notion that reporting done by journalists at student newspapers lacks credibility is disrespectful to all the reporters like Payton whose work deserves nothing but praise
Today was my last day working as an intern with the
@GainesvilleSun
Thanks to
@mickieanderson
for the opportunity. I'll be back in this building in a couple weeks, just with
@alligatorSports
covering volleyball.
Decided to break down how EPA shakes out for Power 5 QBs by play type. Of note:
-Shedeur Sanders has by far the most negative EPA on sacks but also the second-best EPA on non-TD pass receptions
-Jayden Daniels' rushing production is unmatched
-Tight Heisman race
Tired: I can't wait to watch football today!
Wired: Florida is playing Georgia in volleyball right now, and you should probably watch it.
So yes, I'm live-tweeting volleyball again today.
I'm taking over as sports editor
@alligatorSports
for the summer in a timeline that I don't think any of us imagined a couple months ago. But we've got an awesome staff this semester, and I can't wait to get to work with them.
#Gators
-Ole Miss win probability chart. Ole Miss hung around until halftime, but the TDs to end the first half and begin the second half really sealed it.
Super excited to take home 1st place in the Utah SPJ awards for Best Sports Deadline Reporting in Division B. The Park Record did a quick roundup of awards
That's because I've accepted a job covering sports for
@Parkrecord
. Super excited for this opportunity, and I can't wait to get started. Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way.
But I have to get there first, so my mom and I are hitting the road for a few days.
Survived my second day on the slopes. Barely. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't sore all over the place, but I'm getting better. Learning curve is steep, but my second day was a lot better than the first.
The lack of flips today should not change the fact that Florida's signing class so far is still pretty good with a few open spots for February and transfers. Just gotta patch up the RB/WR position.
Stewart Reese, brother of David Reese, is transferring to Florida. Immediately eligible. Played right guard and right tackle at MSU. Also familiar with Mullen's system.
The alligatorSports resident stats expert Brendan Farrell takes an analytical look at the
#Gators
struggles this season and their fall from grace from the preseason AP Top 10.
Looking at how SEC teams have historically done at the QB position:
-No surprises at Bama
-Ole Miss pretty much always solid at QB
-Will Levis the only + QB at UK
-Poor Vandy

During the fall, I posted college football EPA "tiers" every week. Finally decided to put 'em all in motion so you can see how things change over the course of the season.
Touchdown, Oak Grove
Southern Miss commit Jalen Owens picks off a screen pass and returns it 63 yards for six. Not the start Starkville was looking for.
Good news: I survived my first day seeing actual snow. Like, a lot of it (to me, at least). I can finally check "see snow" off the bucket list.
Bad news: I need a new go-to answer for icebreaker questions.
It's officially been a year since I started working for The Park Record. It's been one of the craziest years of my life, and I just wanted highlight some of my work here over the last year:
Win probability for
#UFvsSC
. Pretty similar to last week, actually. SC hung around for most of the first half, but just couldn't keep up with Florida's offense.
@alligatorSports
@cfbscrapR
Coastal Carolina is lapping the field this year in EPA per pass by a hilarious amount.
Everything about the Chanticleers just seems like something out of the NCAA video games between the lax schedule and their incredibly chaotic offense.
I didn't want to be someone who lived in Utah for two years and not go to a national park, so I made the trip down to Arches. Couldn't do everything in one day obviously, but it was a pretty great day
#Gators
will start the 2020 season as the No. 8 team in the country, according to the Amway Coaches Poll. Three SEC teams—Alabama (No. 3), Georgia (No. 4) and LSU (No. 5)—will start the season ahead of Florida.
@alligatorSports
FINAL: Minnesota 3, Florida 2
Florida once again fails to close out a quality opponent and loses in five sets. Tough way to see these four seniors close out their college careers.
Aside from turning a one-hour flight into an all-day affair, I had a pretty sweet Denver trip. Got to see some friends and family, skied a bunch and had a really good time. Back to work tomorrow.
I worked with Kyle and
@JosephSalvador_
in college. They're two of the best writers I've worked with and even better people who deserve much better than what's been going on at SI.
And I'm not just saying this because one of them still keeps me in their Twitter header.
Writing at SI has always been a dream of mine and I'm happy to say I saw it through with the help of so many people. When this 90-day countdown is up, I want to stay in sports media — writing, reporting, editing — and I'm open to all opportunities to do so: kylefwood1

.com.
FINAL: Ingomar 48, Bogue Chitto 46
Don't think the Falcons led until midway through the fourth quarter. Didn't matter. BC's last three-point attempt at the buzzer is front rim and out.

@alligatorSports
FINAL: Florida 3, Louisville 0
Gators sweep the Cards 25-17, 25-21, 25-21 to open the 2019 season. They face Dayton tomorrow at 4:30, or 30 minutes after the game before them.
Florida is now 5-4 against ranked opponents in season-opening matches.
Lesson for next year:
-Tampa:
-~$40 dollars to sit in nosebleeds
-Watch your team get smoked
-Deal with nonstop trash talk from
@faiello_mari
Sunrise:
-Lower bowl seats for $10
-Sharks might actually win
-Peace and solitude because nobody else is there
