Rafah’s productive landscapes, essential for sustaining livelihoods, have been targeted even before the Rafah military campaign started. Between January 30 and April 24, damage to agricultural fields surged from 12% to 38%, while damage to greenhouses increased from 24% to 73%.
As part of tracking the urbicide in Gaza, BUL is launching ‘People and Places’ map documenting some of the disruptions of socio spatial practices, waves of forced displacement as well as acts of everyday resistance by Gazans.

This morning, Beirut Urban Lab coordinated with partners a general meeting with resident representatives and all NGOs/INGOs involved in Karantina to improve relief, repair, and recovery efforts. Ongoing initiatives in shelter, health, food, law, and more towards urban recovery.
Our latest data records the greatest number of strikes from Lebanon on a single day with the deepest average distance into Occupied Palestine. The escalation on July 6 came in response to the assassination of a senior Hezbollah commander by Israel three days earlier.

Since the January siege of Khan Yunis, building damage in the governorate surged from 18.2% to 31.9% by February 29. Health facilities bore a heavy toll, soaring from 30% to 65% damage, and educational institutions endured an increased damage from 33% to 54%.
A new analysis of over 7,000 incidents in the West Bank reveals the dire need for greater scrutiny of settler-colonial violence across all of Palestine.

The Lab is developing a long-term urban recovery strategic framework for Karantina that is people-centered, participatory, socially just, and heritage-led. Part of the work conducted by BUL in Karantina is focused on shared community spaces as a catalyst for recovery.
