Hi folks, national awarding winning journalist here now out of work. (Terminated by Post Media due to the SaltWire sale.) Any leads you may have in research, communication, etc. are so appreciated. Thanks to all whose stories I told or who read my stories.
Last night my Jill pup went for her last walk in Bannerman Park and this morning we said goodbye. The most beautiful dog in the world has left this earth. I can’t thank her enough for her devotion. My heart is broken in a million pieces.

I don’t know yet what the future will bring but one thing I am certain of is they took my journo job but no one can take the respect people have for me. And for that I am truly so very grateful - thanks to all for all the support.
Some personal news and not joking around. I will be transitioning away from The Telegram on Dec. 12 and joining the Cape Breton Post. I'll be around N.L. for a while though. Really hard decision but excited for the change.

I got up super early and went to the grocery store. There are no lines and the staff are working super hard to restock. Be kind - they had a tough day yesterday and no one wants this again.
I wrote this piece in the weekend Telegram about my dog Jill, who I lost a week and a half ago. Miss her tremendously. But am so thankful for all the support.
Really wish the couples shopping together would go single file when passing others to social distance. We all promise not to kidnap your spouse, seriously.

Tonight for a walk I went to the grocery store on Ropewalk. This is the state of the only crosswalk there / could have broke a leg navigating the ice bank. And no sidewalks cleared on most of Pennywell, including school zone. Awful.

It's been a long road but Budden and Associates has won in the Supreme C0urt of Canada. The archdiocese of St. John's can't appeal the landmark decision holding them liable for sexual abuse at Mount Cashel in the 1950s and '60s.

I didn't care who was throwing a temper tantrum behind me this morning, I was driving for the greasy road conditions in St. John's not their love of speed

I was asked to write a first person piece on my time in Washington, D.C. for tomorrow's Telegram (in light of Wednesday's siege) and I came across this.
Don’t mean to be repetitive about ice conditions and icebergs around the Northeast Avalon this year but I can’t remember the last time we had this much pack ice in St. John’s Harbour.
My God, My God. I reported a tweet from a man who posted a photo of an axe and rope and said they were looking forward to a blind date. Twitter responded saying it did not violate their policy. I saw other women saying they reported it. Stunned beyond belief here.
We are heartbroken to share the news that Robin Short passed away at home with his family by his side following complications resulting from Glioblastoma.
He was a Dad, Son, loving husband, loyal friend, and mentor.
Just slipped on icy sidewalk- looked safe but pure ice under new layer of new snow, whacked the back of my head. Be careful walking today. A passing motorist to see if I was OK.
Was contemplating possibly booking a spring vacation. Preliminary, but among different destinations, the living room is looking good. But if I wait, the front verandah might be desirable by late May/June.
True story - woke up by a text and now being harassed by some missus who found a slip of paper her boyfriend has with my name and number on it.Told her (in vain) I am in the media and that is why he had it and I’ve blocked her number now.
Today has been a difficult day. If you can, please consider supporting local journalism by subscribing and bring our co-workers back. In the world of journalism, it's private media that is the most vulnerable.
I ask again why are those people who ru. Out in front of cars to try to get money by the Dejta not being charged with jaywalking. It’s really dangerous.

I am finding it really tough to not tear up on this last editing shift with

Terribly sad and shocked to hear of

's passing. My deepest condolences to his family. He was always great to interview and just a nice guy. A big loss for the province.

Back working at the office fir first time in more than a year and my calendar is locked in time. Tearing up a bit because back then my pup was still with us.
At Bannerman Park and dude has his dog off leash and it’s over bugging my pup. I told him to leash the dog. Tons of kids around. So if one of them got knocked over, the dog would be blamed. Be sensible YYT dog parents.
@CityofStJohns
I just scrolled past some post from some fashion outfit: what to wear and what not to wear after 50. I say wear what you want to wear, as long as it's within the standards of public decency.
I had to pull my arthritic dog up an embankment today because three people would not move over/go single file on wide sidewalk; street was too busy for us to walk out into. Please show courtesy to others, pedestrian groups.

Thinking of not bothering to set my house alarm overnight because in order to rob me, the thieves would have to shovel me out first!

These two young men were brave enough to speak to me about their addictions, others about their struggles with money for food. I wanted to give their struggles a voice.

Bastard came banging on my door this afternoon and now I find out the creep broke into a neighbour’s car - he’s getting a cane upside the head if he tries to come on my house again.
It is just hitting me how much it sucks when you have no immediate family in province and everyone is celebrating the double bubble while all the solo people are still just the solo people.
Why is a panhandler allowed to conduct his business in the middle of a Downtown street (no medium) standing on yellow line? If he gets hit, driver will be vilified.

Some personal news - I bought my first pair of yellow pants today ever because they were on sale. Pale yellow khakis. So, help me out - can you wear those in fall/winter or are they a spring thing?
Did you know this? I did not. All the years getting propane tank filled, Costco guy told me today not to put it in or set it on garbage bag. Which I do to protect hatch floor from stains (as tanks age they get surface rust). Friction from plastic bag could cause explosion.
Anyone else scrutinize the hour by hour forecast to see exactly what the opportune time is to shovel the expected snowfall before it turns to rain? Am thinking 6-6:3 p.m. today.

It's Ok to be outside going for jog, walk, bike ride if not self isolating, says Dr. Janice Fitzgerald. Hopefully that settles that debate. Altogether now: YOU CAN GO FOR A WALK. But keep your six foot distance from other humans. Dogs applauding.

People having affairs must be having some hard time coming up with excuses - they can’t say they’re working late if working from home and only one person per house allowed to grocery shop once a week.
Standing in line at Costco to pay for supplies while waiting for tire changeover dude stands shoulder to shoulder with me. Asked him to give me space. Why don’t these guys understand it doesn’t get them through checkout any faster????
This took my breath away. Reminds me of taking my Jilly pup to one of her most favourite places, Petty Harbour, when we were both seriously ill. She didn't make it past a week from that 2020 outing. I'm still here missing her every single day.
A man who took his terminal dog to see the sea for the last time wrote:
"I'm crazy for bringing you here in your condition... but I wanted to give you that emotion... I know that you love to see the vastness of the sea; the same immensity of love I have for you, Greta. (from FB)
My heart is shattered that my little grandniece Liv has to do this, yet another generation must stand up because of racism in the world and the brutal situation in the US. I never in my life have understood how any group of people can define themselves as superior.
Seven in hospital and two in intensive care....in NL. My thoughts are with all the families of everyone who is dealign with this.

would ban fireworks esp. downtown. Nice to be woken up when you have to work early by some jerk setting them off on a late Sunday night.
No sidekick in the lockdown bubble this time. Five months later I still miss the pup tremendously. I can only imagine how people who have lost family feel.
Why is it when a bolt has about 100 places to fall, it always automatically lands under the deck? Every manufacturer should be required to include extra bolts for when this happens.
@BoydinNL
Spot on Boyd. I don’t give a shit how he missed out on being RCMP officer or any other boohoo in his life. He was an evil demon nothing else.
Hi folks I have done a walkthrough at the Avalon Mall and have a story to tell about the plans for reoopening. Don't judge me but I could smell buttery popcorn, even though the theatre has been closed for months. (and will remain closed in Level 3).
